"When the stars shine again" - Poetic Images

Unread postby IslandCrow » Thu 03 Nov 2005, 13:20:31

Sometime thinking about peak oil and the rammifications of cheap energy running out is enough to get me down. :(

One idea I have found helpful is to think of positive (poetic ???) images of what the future might be like. One I particularly like is "When the stars shine again" reflecting the reduction of light pollution as there is no enough cheap energy to keep all urban areas well lit. I realise the greater safety in well lit areas etc (our dog wants to end his night walk at the last street light in the village unless it is a cloudless night with the moon nearly full), but I find the image comforting.

I would be interested to hear what images you find helpful when looking forward.

Having the stars back will be nice, and I think I will enjoy some silence in many more places.

When I sit on my roof at night, the most beautiful lights I see are those of the San Francisco Skyline. I find it hard to think of anything sadder than seeing those lights, the flame of civilization, fade out.

Deep in the mountains,
sipping clear water
from a mountain stream,
gathering horse chestnuts
fallen here and there.
