Jolt as coffee prices turn frothy

Unread postby mattduke » Tue 11 Mar 2008, 23:01:25

The article mentions a woman buying early to avoid paying higher prices later: that is, we have rising inflation expectations, and citizens choose to sell their dollars now versus holding them: the recipe for hyperinflation.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'L')isa Spruill is fighting inflation with a secret stash of coffee. The Los Angeles office building manager has six cans of Don Francisco coffee squirreled away, all purchased with double coupons at local supermarkets in recent months.

World coffee prices have risen 23% over the last six months.

This is absolutely unacceptable!

I might renounce to my car, to my airplane and to my mcmansion, but I will never renounce to my chips, my popcorn and my cup of coffee.

I am pretty sure the Vietnamese will produce a lower quality coffee bean to put even more Andean coffee bean producers out of business. Bio-fuels? That's going to work well on mountain tops, eh?
The organized state is a wonderful invention whereby everyone can live at someone else's expense.

Peak oil is not an energy crisis. It is a liquid fuel crisis.
