I'd go for Swiss Francs over the Euro. The Euro can nosedive just like it did a month or two ago when a couple countries voted against the Euro consititution. Most US retail banks don't do foreign currency, so you'd need to look elsewhere, like Credit Suisse.

Doesn't look like they have a Missouri office though. Perhaps there's others someone can suggest?

Do you want advice about the mechanics of doing such a thing, or advice about whether it's a good thing to do?

I'd like to know about the mechanics. I was shocked to discover that major US mutual fund firms like Fidelity and Vanguard do not offer money market funds to US residents in anything but US dollars.

Well, physical curency conversions are tough to do in the states. In Colorado there is one bank in Dever that I know of that you can do it at. No other banks keep any amound of foreign currencies on site.

The main reason is the Dollar is the Reserve Currecny of the World! Why would WE want to have any of their silly money when ours is MIGHTY!

As for the logic... well like I just said, the Dollar is the reserve currency of the WORLD, if she go boom, they not be far behind.

Better option, Gold and Silver. Find a coin dealer, ask what he charges above spot for bullion and junk purchaces and go for it. Dont go for "collectables" or any such nonsence. YOu are looking for metal content only.

Is there a section for local coin dealers in the yellowpages? I lost my phone book.

However, I would not recommend trading one fiat for another. All will lose eventually.

Yeah if you want to convert your US currency to another currency, the safest is Swiss Francs. Why the Swiss Franc?, because it is the only currency backed by Gold, it is not fiat. Anyway I'm pretty sure it is anyway. I have a swiss 20 francs coin, it's made out of GOLD.

Sorry I was mistaken, I just double checked, it's sorta backed by gold but not really. I'll post a quote of it.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he Swiss franc is the currency of Switzerland. This is one of the world's most stable currencies, thanks to the neutrality, fiercely conservative monetary policy and ample gold reserves of the Swiss national bank.

Anyway, I think if the US and Euro starts to tank, the value of the Swiss Franc will go up as alot of traders would move funds to the swiss, but in essience it is still flat, they are not as irresponsible as the US fed res.
