Strep throat refers to that scratchy throat which causes itching and soreness in the mouth. It becomes difficult to eat and drink anything, swallowing the food feels painful. Strep throat is caused due to a bacterial infection which usually comes around during winter season. Common cold, sneezing etc. are some other issues that comes along strep throat.

Strep throat is easily diagnosed, in my experience, and per friends and loved ones for decades.

Fever, often high fever, is an obvious common symptom you don't mention. If you ignore it long enough, then yes, can worsen to the point of swallowing causing lots of pain. Oh, and some people get it often, and others seem to be rather resistant to it.

What is your main point, please?
Given the track record of the perma-doomer blogs, I wouldn't bet a fast crash doomer's money on their predictions.
