The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

Finally a way to prove that you don't harbor racist thoughts!
*grin*
Do you think trial lawyers in the south where they have “hate crime” bills will use this to prove their clients don't harbor racist thoughts?

Apparently, I don't harbor any racism or sexual bias. But I didn't need a test to tell me that. *grin*

I do, however, have a very slight bias towards younger people. I find it hard to forgive the elders for not mending their ways sooner. *smile*

Actually, these tests are used to show that most jurors harbor racist tendencies and are more likely to sentence dark-skinned defendants to death as opposed to light-skinned defendants.

I don't think implicit association equals ideology.

For example, I scored that I have an implicit association between women and home, rather than work. Now, I've been a geek girl all my life, since I opened my toys with screwdrivers. But it does happen that if I hear "engineer" my first assumption is that it will be a male. This is because, in my environment, most engineers are actually male. I do not think for a moment that this is the way things should be.

I reckon that, if in your environment, most violent incidents involve black people, you will have an implicit association of black and violence, without necessarily meaning that you are racist.

I think the promoters of this test (and those like it) are saying that is exactly what it means. If you implicitly associate "black" with "violence," then that is a racist association. Whether or not one has facts or history in his or her background to support this association is not relevant. It is still a racist association when someone associates certain behavioral tendencies with a particular race.

This is not to say that anyone holding this association is evil. The association most probably comes as a matter of upbringing or is otherwise learned. Much like your example of associating "engineer" with "male."
