for me, this is the best article in some time. A synopsis of Human History no less seen from a census count/ carrying capacity viewpoint. http://www.energybulletin.net/5874.html

My read of the day will be the May ASPO Newsletter:

ASPO May

Reading articles such as the one you submitted leaves me with such a sad feeling. Sadness for all of us humans. We have been such a successful species and our reward is ... :(
"Modern Agriculture is the use of land to convert petroleum into food."
-- Albert Bartlett

"It will be a dark time. But for those who survive, I suspect it will be rather exciting."

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I')ndustrialization committed us to living again, massively, as hunters and gatherers of sustances which only nature can provide and which occur only in limited quantity.
An interesting notion, we were compelled by neccessity to adopt a way of life tantamount to hunting and gathering. Oh the horror when everyone realizes the truth.

Catton Jr's "Overshoot" is the single most influential book I ever read. If we had a REAL education system, one designed to create thinking, authentic human beings-instead of docile consumeroid specialists, it would be required reading. All the current crop of "crash and burn" books are just watered-down Catton--although I do enjoy Kunstler's tasty, sarcastic bonbons of existential nausea. I don't know why this book hasn't been reviewed on this site's book review section=serious omission.
