$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('DesuMaiden', 'I') noticed there are a lot of advertisements on this site. So I was wondering if this site is supported by advertising revenue. I think most sites on the Internet run on ad revenue.
Let's suppose it is (like most sites which don't directly sell lots of stuff like, say, Amazon).
SO WHAT? As long as the mods are (as far as I can tell) reasonable and unbiased, and the conversation flows to let us share information about related (and for members, unrelated) topics -- what is the harm?
Far as I can tell, it's not like they try to deny that there are ads. Are we better off or worse off with such sites? (I'd say an unqualified "better")
To me, until someone MAKES you join, or they directly lie about the ad revenue -- no harm, no foul. My only concern is if the internet ends up (like TV, IMO) letting ads dominate and RUIN THE EXPERIENCE for the users. Only time will tell, on that. (And no, I don't watch live television, due to the ads).
Given the track record of the perma-doomer blogs, I wouldn't bet a fast crash doomer's money on their predictions.
