Pinnochio Putin and Porky Pies!?

Unread postby Permanently_Baffled » Thu 23 Dec 2004, 06:41:31

Bloomberg Is Putin telling porky pies about Russian oil production as well as all the members of OPEC? Looks like they are all conspiring in this charade!
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'R')ussia's current oil reserves can last for as many as 50 years at the existing pace of extraction, Putin said during a live press conference televised across Russia today. He called for companies to develop Eastern Siberian oil fields. Most of Russia's oil production is concentrated in Western Siberia.

I read the above as , 9mpd for the next 50 years, couple this with the claims of the Saudi's of 15mpd and the plans of the Iranians of 7mpd, there is a lot of porky pies being told!! What the hell is going on?

If they get one pint of oil out of the ground in 50 years then the oil lasted 50 years, right?

At the existing pace of extraction.

Let's see a show of hands! How many people believe Russia (or anyone else) is gonna continue pumping at their existing pace of extraction?

Funny...I don't see any hands...I wonder why? 8O

Putin Knows The Score

Unread postby Free » Tue 03 May 2005, 16:57:33

I just learned on a TV-report what was completely new to me: In 2004 Russia had a budget surplus of 18 billion Euro, with which they partially paid back foreign debt - and guess what they did with the rest: buying gold reserves!

So not only has Russia the biggest remaining fossil fuel reserves, they are smart enough to get rid of foreign debt and put their money into gold!

If I was to bet on a country with a future, my bet would be on Russia...

But like real estate it is all about "location, location, location" and Russia has a very poor one.

Long winters, depressing weather and too much vodka drinking.

But just think, with global warming and all, they'll soon have that beautful north coast.

Oceanfront property and everything, balmy summers. What's not to love?

It is true that Russia could benefit from global warming, even a couple of weeks added to the growing season would be huge.

Russia is a kleptocracy run by mafia types. If they purchase gold, I wouldn't be surprised if much of it ends up in private accounts in Zurich and Geneva.

I don't think no one will enjoy global warming if melting icecaps start breaking away into the oceans.

Melting floating ice doesn't contribute to
rising sea level only melting land locked ice does ..
Fill a glass with water and ice cubes and mark the water
level .. then measure again after the ice has melted ..

The greenland Ice sheet is thousands of feet thick. If this alone melted, worldwide ocean levels would rise almost 7 meters. If the antarctic eastern Ice sheet melts then we have a really bad situation. Global sea level rise would be near 200 feet.

One of the problems with global warming is that as the sea temperature averages rise the water expands which also contributes to the rise. The proverbial "double whammy".

On the other hand if we just put a big shade in orbit and cause an ice age so much snow will make glaciers in the northern hemisphere that sea leve will drop 300 feet and berengia will be dry lang again, as well as the huge area's around the East Indies and north of Australia.

Russia buying gold?
Aren't they one of the top gold producers?

It makes no sense to buy gold at these high prices.
Gold doesn't give you food and it doesn't produce lil gold nuggets.
They should invest it in developing more oil and gas.
Or plant trees, so they can cut them down after PO to use as firewood. :P

Putin offers a frosty reception as Bush heads to Moscow
By Ron Hutcheson, Knight Ridder Newspapers
Friday May 6, 2005

RIGA, Latvia - On the eve of a meeting with President Bush, Russian President Vladimir Putin questioned Bush's goals in Iraq and suggested that Russia is more democratic than the United States.

In an interview scheduled for release Sunday, Putin signaled that he's in no mood for any criticism from Bush when the two leaders meet Sunday at Putin's dacha near Moscow. Bush arrived in Latvia late Friday on his way to the Russian capital.

The strains between Bush and Putin were apparent as the two men shadowboxed in advance of their meeting. Bush is traveling to Moscow for a ceremony on Monday marking the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe.

Putin will host a private dinner for Bush and his wife, Laura, the night before the two presidents join more than 50 other world leaders in Moscow's Red Square for a military parade.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Russian leader bristled at suggestions that he's backsliding on his commitment to encourage democracy in Russia.

Putin cited the U.S. Electoral College system and the disputed 2000 presidential election as evidence that Russia could be considered "even more democratic" than the United States.

"In the United States, you first elect the electors and then they vote for the presidential candidates. In Russia, the president is elected through the direct vote of the whole population. That might be even more democratic," Putin told journalist Mike Wallace.

"And you have other problems in your elections," he added. "Four years ago, your presidential election was decided by the court."

Putin also questioned Bush's effort to bring democracy to Iraq.

"Democracy cannot be exported to some other place," he said. But Putin, whose opposition to the war contributed to the tensions between the White House and the Kremlin, urged Bush to finish the job in Iraq.

"If the U.S. were to leave and abandon Iraq without establishing the grounds for a united and sovereign country, that would definitely be a second mistake," he said.

I think you'll be seeing much more of this kind of reactions ammoung nations as oil starts its decline...esp nations that have HUGE NG and OIl...ie Russia...Iran...Venz...I think they are all rather tired of the USA as always right and they are always wrong...

I got a small laugh this morning when i was looking over oil stats for the first quarter @ http://omrpublic.iea.org/omrarchive/12apr05tab.pdf

Turns out the USA is no longer consuming 25% of the world oil supply because of growth in the rest of thew world. The entire USA consumed 20.54 mbd in the first quarter while the world consumed 84.6 mbd. That puts the USA at 24.27% and falling!

There is evidence Florida has quite a bit of oil offshore in the Gulf of Mexico. If the drilling/exploration bans are lifted, we might find out for sure....
