News Titles

I have noticed how the media will really fluffs there titles to make one think everything is fine. Do any of you have examples you would like to share. Here is one from today I found in the Business section of Yahoo.

"Stocks Climb on Stability in Oil Prices"

I would not call it stable would you?

I have noticed the same thing!

Titles like: Stocks climb on plunge in oil prices (when prices drop 20-30 cents - not exactly a 'plunge') and others that play down the increases like: ... after adjusting for inflation, oil would have to be $90.00 a barrel to reach highs in the early eighties.

Makes me wonder about the objectivity of these reports, especially after you see variations on that theme over and over again.

You have to remember...the news media job is NOT to give us news...it's to sell air time for commercials! If people start tuning out because of "doom & gloom" stories then the media will loose $$$. The "news" doesn't care if people die, it's all about the almighty dollar (valueless as it is). It's even getting hard to find real news on the internet now-a-days.

I don't really think the news media is all that conspiritorial or shackled by their owners - maybe somewhat; I think they just aim to be in synch with majority perceptions and interests. My impression is that slowly but surely the Peak Oil story is creeping into the collective mindset. Its fascinating to watch. The collective mind is slow and suspicious of stories like this one - but its out there and they are still sizing it up. My guess is within another year it'll be all over the headlines and in the evening and Sunday newscasts.
