Just realized that yesterday was my 5 year anniversary of joining this looney bin. :-D

I have learned a lot from you people, even the pain in the ass ones, and there's been a lot of good people come and go over those years. Here's hoping we're still able to discuss this stuff in another 5 years without saying "told you so" 8O

I think I've been here more than 5 years. Does that make me a doomer?

I think peak oil is a far more complicated and subtle change than I did 5 years ago. I thought that we would be over the peak and living really tough lives by now, and I guess some people are.

It's a slow decline, not a fast crash. So far...

This place is tough for me to get away from too - don't think I haven't tried. I've learned an amazing amount about everything from economics to philosophy here (not to mention the sociology of message boards) , that's what is so addicting.

Yep, over the last five years we've seen temperature of the frog water steadily rise - its not so different than many of the descriptions of what the early plateau would be like predicted - we just didn't know we were already there.

I remember when I first found PO. I didn't even know what a forum was back in those days. But I still wish I could spend some time drinking beer and discussing the same topics with all of you.

It's my 5 year anniversary this month too. I am more of a lurker and rarely post these days.
I joined for the kinship since few of my friends could deal with the topic of resource depletion five years ago. Many have come to feel the frog-water-heat rising in their pots.
I miss Heineken, Shanny, DantesPeak, Gideon, Roccman, and those, whose names escape me now.
I also work 45 or so hours a week now compared to about 20 hours when I first joined, so I log on to check on topical issues since this site remains a quick resource of news outlets that offer more than Faux news.
Happy Anniversary to the 2005 alumni!

I've passed 5 as well I think. When I found PO, it was almost the only site I read for nigh on a year or so.

I know I was thinking shorter timelines back then. I think I would've thought we were farther along the downslope five years hence.

Wonder if we'll all be here (on PO.com) in 2015.

When the Class of '05 starts one of these threads I always wonder how the class of '04 thinks of us. Many of them have fallen off the board for different reasons as time marches on but Aaron is still here. Hey Boss, do we sound egotistical or what, talking about how long WE have been here when the whole place was a lot of work by you '04 founders...

Lots of ups and downs over the last few years. Back in the day, discussion of theory was the order of the day. This led to discussion of preps. As the world progressed, the news fell in line with some of the predictions. Changes will continue, at different speeds. Some changes we have expected, some will hit us out of nowhere.

I think I actually posted as a guest, which you could do, for a few days before I registered.....spent about a year going through the data and doing the modeling....

Anyway, all we've witnessed is the destruction of one of our major cities by a hurricane, uncontrolled gyration of the energy and financial markets up and down, major corporations including the big auto companies going bankrupt, ongoing war to protect our energy supply, and now, what could very well turn out to be the biggest oil spill in history.....

The fun is just beginning.
