Today is March 15, 2005 (ides of March)
Today the scrolling sidebar says :
"There are 254 days until Deffeyes Peak Oil Date.
There are 637 days until WOCAP Peak Oil Date.
There are 1002 days until ASPO Peak Oil Date.
There are 9403 days until USGS Peak Oil Date."
I suspect that we will only know the peak oil year, maybe the month, and only sometime after it is passed.
Being now middle-aged, I am hoping to have 10,000 to 12,000 more healthy days. This is anticipating a gradual decline, and a well-organized response by society when enough people know about peak oil. If it's the USGS date, then it won't dawn on enough people in time to do us any good, then I probably only have 9500 days left, so the sooner the better
Food production is presently highly dependent on fossil fuels, so more labour-intensive farming methods will have to be re-introduced in the first world.
It is ironic that just as the last of the pre-industrial processes and skills are disappearing, they are going to have to be re-learned by baby-boomers and their offspring, who have all been coddled all their lives. It's going to be quite a learning curve.
