Our twelve year old 56" big screen broke down about three weeks ago. And I am not replacing the fool thing. I am perfectly fine without it and all the commercials that show on it daily.GOOD RIDDANCE!

Funny, my five year old 22 inch bit the dust about three weeks ago too. Given the amount of time I hang on to TVs, I went ahead and got a 32 inch HD. Picture is great (even without the HD hooked up). But it's funny, I got this nice TV now and I still don't feel like watching lol.

Haven't owned one for years. Massive time-waster. And it's called 'programming' for a reason...

Television? What television?

I have a hi-def TV, but it's for video games and movies. I like the over-the-air antennae to watch PBS (public, educational TV for you foreigners).

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('vision-master', 'H')D-DVD an Bluray for the Big Screen with nice audio system - TV needed.

HD, Blu-ray, etc. un-needed, un-wanted, over-hyped excuse to make you buy something you already have again at a higher price.

Video projector with a six-foot wide cast + nice Dolby 5.1 Surround audio - TV NOT needed. :P

Netflix, doodoo, Netflix. All DVDs ever for $15/month, and you can rip them easily.

I don't own one, but I do occasionally if I am really bored, watch a show or two online.

I like to be able to move around and a tv is just another heavy anchor that has to be delt with

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('vision-master', 'B')ulbs are expensive..........

I can get a replacement bulb for my model for around $200 now, less in some cases. A 70-inch Sony Bravia KDL-70XBR3, the largest consumer-available flat panel HDTV that I can find, which is still not as large as the image from my projector, is $18,000. I expect that I can buy enough bulbs to last the remainder of my life for considerably less... :-D

To do audio and especially a home theater system correctly takes mountains of cash.

I'm a reformed audiophile. I used to have a $10,000 audio system (some second-hand, it would have cost about $30,000 new). I know that sounds crazy, but if you like music, you have not lived until you have a hi-end system which will replicate the 3-D space (the sound stage) of an orchestra in your living room, where you can pick out instruments in space in front of you. Each instrument is definable in space with correct timber in a high end system. Until you have heard it, most people don't even know its possible. To quote Ferris Buehler, "It is so choice, if you have the means, I highly recommend it."

But I sold it all off once I saw the economy imploding in 2007 and bought preps with the cash. I still have about 1,000 rare Jazz, Blues and old, rare Americana (bluegrass and country) vinyl though.

TV (TeleVision) is Greek for distant picture.

And at next sale I'll buy another television (distant picture) set for watching my favorite nature shows; :-D
