Reasons To Stay With POTS

Unread postby stonecypher » Wed 13 May 2009, 01:03:57

Whether or not you subscribe to the sensationalist press items about how cell phone users are all going to die of brain cancer in a few years, are you completely wireless?

If you're keeping a landline, why?

Cell phones have really only been around 20 years for the majority You keep spouting that s*** and talk to me in 20 years

I do not have a cell phone for a number of reasons.

1. No one needs to get a hold of me that bad.

2. I do not need to get a hold of anyone else that bad.

3. On those rare occassions that I might need to get a hold of someone I walk into a busy place, apologize and say that I really need to make a phone call and ask if I can use someone's phone.

4. They cost money that could be better used to pay off debt or save.

Hate talking on cell phone.

Small, bad acoustics, uncomfortable, small buttons, runs out of juice.

Only have a cell for emergencies.

Bought one for about 20 bucks, put about 200 bucks into it in minutes and such, and it's about 10 months later now, still have most of the minutes.

Point is, when I'm out, I don't want to talk on a phone, and when I'm home, I don't want to talk on a little crappy phone.

VOIP @ home

4 cell phones

Skype

"Texting"

IM

VoiceMail

Email

Forums

SnailMail

Twitter

FaceBook

Plaxo

Linked In

MySpace

Just how connected do I really need to be?

Bah... I'm surprised I don't have telegraph services.

I follow this philosophy as well. When I see folks swerving around in their cars in front of me I usually peak in their window as I pass and without fail their yapping away on their cell. I can only imagine what garbage they are talking about; "Guess what happened at work today, Honey", or "So-and-so said 'bla bla bla', and I was like 'bla bla bla' and he was like 'bla bla bla". I don't even like hearing this kind of garbage in person let alone having to deal with it on the phone.

I've been cell only for almost 10 years. I had to get a land line to get DSL when I moved into my current place. I put it on all the do-not-call lists. The thing was still ringing off the hook with $&%*$ telemarketers. I put the thing on a fax machine and decided forget it. It still rings probably 5 or 6 times a week. I get the satisfaction of knowing that the telemarketer scum are being screamed at by the fax. As far as I'm concerned, the price of the cell is well worth it for the legal protection it affords from telemarketers.

I hear cell phone jammers are easy to get even though they are illegal. Fun to watch people look at their phone when it cuts out. Not that I am saying you should do something illegal or anything.

I suggest a partial solution to the homeless people problem would be to
epoxy old defunct cell phones into the left palm of the crazy people who wander the streets constantly talking to themselves. Then they would look like successful people who constantly have to talk to their cell phones, thereby beautifying our major cities.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('cbxer55', '[')b]constant yackers

pot

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')ake it for what it is, but I am not one of those constant yackers. I keep mine muted, look at it once in awhile to see if anyone has called, check to see if they left a voice mail. No voice mail, no call back. I do not talk while driving, as it would interupt whatever conservative talk show host I am listening to on the radio. Rush, Sean, Neil, Glen, etc. come before the telephone.
If the voice mail is from someone I do not desire talking to, no return call. But generally since I do not owe anyone any money, there is no one on my hit list right now.
My wife is just the opposite, always yacking it up with someone. Last night she was bugging me to bring the jerk chicken in off the grill. When I walk through the door, she picks up her phone and calls her mother, talks to her for 20 minutes. By the time she goes in to fix her plate it is cold. Image

isn't that still 1? Anyway, the only people I care to talk to are in this forum. Most everyone else annoys me, it is nice to to annoy others for a change of pace.

Thanks! I've been tempted to try comedy a few times - problem is, the best comedy is ripping other people to shreds, and that's bad for the soul . . . .
