I just found this site today....and....It has answered every question i ever had on peak oil...It is basically telling me...WE ARE SCREWED! But what I am STILL unsure of is WHEN WILL THIS HAPPEN! Ive heard 2005,2006,2010..all the way through 2060....As you can see..i am very confused and want to know when i should realistically prepare! Help Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Relax, don't worry, have a cookie.... hehe.. Well thought out preparation should begin now. The most likely effects of oil peaking will be a relentless, grinding worldwide recession as transtition to other sources takes place...

Welcome. Peak oil is probably happening right now. There is much evidence now that Saudi Arabia and OPEC are pumping oil flat out and cannot raise oil production any higher. At the same time, world oil demand is increasing each year. This means peak oil is probably occuring right now. If you are trying to plan ahead, then visit 'planning for the future' section of this site. Lots of good info. It may take a while for this all to sink in. But you will eventually be able to mentally deal with it. Just don't stress too much, ok? But I do honestly believe that we are peaking in 2005. Things will start to get bumpy by the end of 2005. We will probably see $3 per gallon gas by the end of 2005. But that's just my gut feeling. Worrying about peak oil is not going to help you at all. But preparing the best that you can will. Just don't go into farther debt to prepare!

You forgot to take the red pill with a bottle of red wine. Almost everyone on this website who posts regularly knows about that website. It was my first introduction to PO as fact rather than theory. I didn't have the luxury of optimistic reporting on peak oil as a cushion. I went from no information on PO to everything I would ever need to know in about 4 hours. 8O

DON’T DO WHAT I DID. It sucked. Tell your friends a little about it and then explain more as time goes on. Showing the worst of PO (Matt’s site) first is dangerous, especially if the viewer is intellectually curious. It’s dangerous in two ways. If one doesn’t believe in anything unless they can touch it, Matt’s site will push them away from Peak Oil Theory. If one can think outside of the box, Matt’s site will drive them into a crippling depression for weeks. :x

Most of Matt's site is exaggeration. But his basic premise is correct. Oil depletion will change life in the “modernâ€

Don't get too excited by Matt's website. Matt Savinar is a lawyer in his 20s. He just graduated from law school. He has no special knowledge of what is going to be the real effects of Peak Oil. He basically is just recycling the worst case scenarios that he plagiarizes from other sources. Remember, Matt is selling a book and subscription to his website newletter. He has an incentive to get you really freaked out. Take some time to learn about what is happening and what the changes in your life are likely to be. Peak Oil is coming, but it is not necessarily a bad thing.

Lay off Matt, will you? Is it your life's goal on this site to bash Matt and his book or something? The reason he left this forum is because you kept trashing him and his book. His scenarios are very realistic. And his sources hold up a lot better than your opinions. And saying that peak oil isn't necessarily a bad thing' just shows how ignorant you really are. You have always been a trouble maker on this site. Why are you still here, anyways? You should have been banned a long time ago. And remember... Matt has already accomplished more in life than you ever will.

I like Matt. I think he's done everyone good by bringing the issue to everyone's attention with all the links necessary to follow-up and form your own opinion, whether you agree with him or not.

On the other hand, Jay has a right to question anyone's credibility, it helps us all determine the truth. We question the credibility of SA all the time, as well as IEA and all the other writers, so, Jay raises fair points. I've email with Matt, and believe he is big enough to take the criticism.

There's a difference between legitimate questions to determine bias like Jays and simple "flames" like Killjoys which aren't intended to do anything accept, be a Killjoy.

SoSad, just keep reading the sites, follow the links, nothing is ever as good or bad as it seems.

Jay goes far beyond questioning people's credibility. Does he have the right to continually personally attack someone and their livelihood on this site with intent to do harm (not to mention the personal threats)? I think not.

That website is a lot to take in, but its not bullshit. I have read the same things he has read, and have come to the same conclusions. Its better to know whats comming (no matter how serious it is) and prepare accordingly, rather to hope for the best and delay any preparations because of the possitive thinking. Matts ideas are not far off when looking at the problems we face.

Jay, enough of the Matt bashing. He has done nothing to you. You make every attempt to flame him - just because you dont agree with his opinions. He has certainly done a lot more in his life (written a book, gained many PO followers), then you have. Its appearant that he has done much, much more for the PO cause then you have, as all you do is bash his work and try to ruin his reputation. Really, what is the pont? Oh well.

Matt's website is not to far off I must say. If you have any concept of history, and idea of how economies are reliant on oil, any idea of just who is running our country - then you should draw the same conclusions. Lets just say if you know the facts, then his view of the future is not far off from reality. But if you look at his site with no background knowledge, its going to sound a bit radical, a bit depressing, and a bit crazy. But its okay, because we are all crazy doomsays who think the end of the world is nigh, right?

The only advice I have is do some more research on your own, think in your mind how the largest and richest country in the world is going to do when this problem happeneds. Read some books as to the events of world war 2 and the rice of the third reich. Google search the petro-dollar, the Bush family, and petro-farming. Look at what things we are facing in the future; look at our farming, economic, a transporation reliances on Oil. Look at the people who are planning for our future, and look at how previous powerful societies have delt with resource depletion. Then, after doing your own research, come back to his site and draw your own conclusions. If you have done enough background research his site will not come as such a suprise.
