Car tzar: Who would you choose?

"Car Tzar": Ralph Nader, Malcolm Bricklin, Richard Branson ?? Who would you choose? Lee Iacocca? If we get enough suggestions we could have a poll.
My suggestion, fire all the beanies, managers and "marketers" and hire a bunch of those crazy Korean engineers.

Nader would be good. He'd probably outlaw cars and make us ride bicycles and the bus. Peak oil solved.

Seriously, anyone who would impose high (multi-thousand dollar) taxes on gas guzzlers would be a good choice. Get us on a path to reduce car use and then when we have to use cars, use them more efficiently with better mileage.

I think we have too many Czars. Car czar, national security czar, housing czar, debt czar. We'll need a czar czar soon.
Riches are not from abundance of worldly goods, but from a contented mind.

Woolsey. He worked for McCain so can be seen as reaching across the aisle, he knows DC, and is aware of the security implications.

The problem is that a car czar that is only concerned with electrifying transportation isn't going to get Detroit immediately profitable again. Detroit's burn rate is a more pressing matter than their lack of plugins, especially with gas so cheap now. When they talk about making more efficient vehicles, we're talking about an initial shift towards Ford Fiesta type vehicles before we get to plugins and EVs. It's unrealistic to expect anything more than a small handful of plugin offerings from the big 3 just to get the ball rolling and help bring costs down enough to be profitable. I just don't see how it can be done all in one fell swoop. So I think they will pick someone primarly for their business sense.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Wahoo', 'I') nominate Ron Paul as this year's dark horse candidate for Car Czar!

But what are Ron's car qualifications?
How many dark "horsepower"?

How about the Beach Boys?

Or the Dukes of Hazzard?
