Green Bay Packer tickets not selling

Unread postby frankthetank » Tue 02 Dec 2008, 14:28:48

Not a good sign. Just shows you how bad it is :)

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'G')REEN BAY, Wis. (AP) Some say the Lambeau Field game day experience is priceless.

This season, that game day experience is more affordable.
Ticket brokers say the demand for Green Bay Packers tickets is down.

Ticket King's Josh Anderson says it's the opposite of last year's demand, probably due to the Packers' record, the economy and maybe some Brett Favre hangover.

John Schmidt of Schmitty's Tickets says they were selling tickets for last Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers on the street and ended up with about 30 they couldn't sell. Schmidt says that has never happened for a regular season game in the 12 years he has been in business.

Brokers say they're selling tickets for Sunday's game against Houston below face value while the last regular season game against Detroit is selling above face value.

A sign of the times. Can't wait until the first sports team asks for a bailout.

My money is on the Detroit Lions or maybe some NBA team.

Frank--

I dont have the time to look right now but I know a week or so ago there was a thread here on PO.com about the Cowboys begging for a bailout. Something on the order of $350 million if I remember correctly.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'I')'m not gay or anything but I just can not stand organized sports.

The spectacle, the big trucks, the huge stadiums, fake fireworks, and giants ads. The testosterone. Wait! That's so gay.

I really hope this downturn continues. $13 hot dog, $7 soda, $10 beer. BS!!! Paying for parking, dealing with stupid people, expensive tickets, and all for a bunch of people playing a game, individually making more than every teacher in the US combined. And then they complain and are rude to the fans. F*#& them.

How much is Arod making now?? Maybe he should finance some of these bailouts.

I can't believe Green Bay can sustain an NFL team. The town is tiny and pretty far from the major markets (Milwaukee/Madison).

Enough pro football, basketball.

Like ancient Rome, we need real blood sports.

I knew this time would be here soon. I also watched a special regarding European Soccer ( futball ). They are also struggling. It is by far the most popular sport in the world and they are having trouble with advertising revenue and pay per view which is a main part of their income. I am really anticipating a huge drop in sports attendances in 2009. And to the person who mentioned the Cowboys and their financial troubles with their new stadium, I remember that thread too. 2009 is setting up to be the year of all years for a financial shitstorm.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('retiredguy', 'L')ike ancient Rome, we need real blood sports.

Actually, I'd read something recently that indicated that gladiators in Rome (at some point) were deemed amateurs and unskilled if they actually killed their competitors. Think closer to pro wrestling with weapons. Where was that...

Oh, thank you wikipedia...
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'D')uring gladiatorial combat, it was preferable for gladiators not to kill each other; technically, they were slaves, but they also often had years of intensive training and therefore were quite valuable. Gladiators were instructed to inflict non-lethal wounds upon each other, and often lived long, rather successful lives; they were able to purchase their freedom after three years. However, accidents did happen--at times resulting in death, and gladiators who failed to display bravery in combat could be executed by order of the emperor. After fights, the bodies of the gladiators were buried in a manner depending on the status of the fighter.

Well, I'm just thinking all the food we can grow in those big fields that were once used for trivial sports....

More orchards! Hooray!

I could pay $90 for a single ticket to a Patriots game. Spend $10 in gas getting there. Another $15 to park. Plus $10 for food at the game.

$125. 8O

And I'd do this so I can sit a huge distance from the field on a cold seat on a rainy day just to watch my team lose badly?

Or I could go over a friend's house, spend virtually nothing, and watch the game from the comfort of a sofa.

Any guesses as to which I'd prefer?

Does anyone on this forum actually pay to watch football anymore?

Not this kid. TV rocks, especially a high-def widescreen major network broadcast on a big ol' proper LCD flat-panel.

This is probably why pay per view will become more prevelant soon like futball is Europe. The Yankees make boatloads on their cable deal too. Attendances are going to drop 30-50% in the next year or two imo. If my ultra doomer predictions come true, 2009 may be the last year for pro sports in the US.

I dont get why some people on here have to use gay when talking about something they dont like! Grow Up !

Anyway, professional sports better wake up, because if this economy heads the way many think it will be then this sort of leisure spending will be cut first. Its already starting to affect concert tours. Madonna, the eagles and Bon Jovi all canceled tours in Australia because they couldnt get the prices they wanted with the weak economy.

That is "dudes tackling dudes" to you :)

Really... If they can start broadcasting 1080P and if you have a 50inch screen...isn't it better then being at the game? You don't have to die in a traffic crash, pay for some crappy hotdog, watered down beer.

I think the next logical step is a smell device. Something that can emit the smell of sweaty man... That would be good.
