Risky to participate in PO sites?

Noticed this recently, comment #18 from the administrator of a site who knows something about the participants involved...

and at nearly the same time, this announcement ( Editor Comment #2 )

and suddenly, we have to wonder, whats going on? I would expect in short order lots of denials, explanations, and such as word gets out, but the two events, coming so close together? It just begs the question, can this happen to us here, at our internet community dedicated to something which most of us know better than to venture out in public with? I mean, if the mods have to worry about being black bagged, how long before they are forced to give us up in exchange for their own freedom? Its not like many of us have websites we can just sell, collect the cash, buy some gold and hotfoot it out of town before the ticked off acquaintances/volunteers discover who sold them down the river?

I don't know....I'm going to wait until the expected explanations, denials, stories from the mods themselves, and consequences start to show up, but it sure makes you wonder about risk reward in these places.

There's nothing to the comments on survival acres. I happen to moderate on the LATOC. The guy making the comments was banned from LATOC. Don't want to get into all the details, just nothing to it. As for closing the LATOC site, it is in no way linked to the comments on survival acres. The owner of the site has entertained a few offers to buy the site and is considering taking them and moving onto other things.

What exactly would the jackboots hope to learn about me on this site? That I think oil production has either already peaked or will peak in the next 5-10 years? That I don't ascribe to the Jevons' paradox or the dieoff hypothesis? That I'm into gardening? That I've asked questions about how to store walnuts? That I prefer Glocks over 1911s? That I want to have a beer with Smallpoxgirl?

As far as riskiness, you have to assume everything you write or view on the internet is forever kept in a database accessible by TPTB and/or anyone who can afford it. Evaluate your decisions based on that and your assessment of the possible consequences.

If "they" wanted to shut down the concept of peak oil they would have muzzled Kunstler, Heinberg, Simmons, Catton, Bartlett, and all the others long before any of us peons. Why should "they" feel threatened when psychological denial has been working so well?

I thought Roccman said he was sealing himself in his bunker two weeks ago.....He must have had a flat tire on the way or his truck got "booted" for illegal parking or something...he's not in the bunker, anyway.

This is complete fucking bullshit and I am prepared to take legal action against anybody who spreads these lies as they are completely, 100%, to the moon and back, FALSE. Nobody at latoc is under any investigation and certainly not "with Matt's full cooperation". We are talking COMPLETELY FALSE. There's at least 6 different potential torts here and I haven't even put my thinking cap on.

@ ShortOnSense: your anon screename DOES NOT protect you from getting sued for spreading these rumors. Your IP addy and personal info is easily obtainable. Yes, you posting here and contributing to the spread of these lies even though you are not the originator yourself is actionable.

I'm not litigious by nature by any stretch of the imagination but I'm not going to stand by and let 100% LIES like this be spread about me and my work.

Go look me up on the California State Bar Attorney search. I'm licensed and ready to go. This is why I've maintained my license all this time at significant monetary cost even though I have not been practicing. Given the nature of my work I figured it was only a matter of time before people starting spreading TOTAL LIES about me and/or my forum and I would have to put the license to use.

btw, back when I delivered pizzas, I saw a really ugly woman who had class and style. Gracious, friendly, a good tipper, beautifully kept condo, pleasant friends. Puts the lie to the cruel old witticism that beauty is skin deep but ugly is to the bone. I sort of miss that old job that I had for 10 years. I witnessed some amazing things. For instance, once I saw what shitheads lawyers can be. Cripes! Vile creep who threatened to sue because his pizza was late. Another time I saw a good looking yuppie woman going ballistic on her husband and mocking his fondness for their dog. Creepy scene. Never a dull moment.

Really? Can we assume that legal action against the supposed forum adminstrator who made the original assertions has begun?

People get banned on LATOC every week, Matt just provided a list not a week ago of 4 or 5 people he decided he didn't like, including ex-moderators from THIS site I believe. As best I can tell, one of them made the horrendous mistake of admitting he was a Muslim.....gone....his judgment on banning people that won't buy into a particular groupthink hardly says something about someone manufacturing a lie of this magnitude.

Why would the feds be interested in anyone on Latoc? I just find the back and forth between Matt and the guy on Survival Acres, high comedy. Though, it may be difficult for them to do, neither of them should take themselves too seriously.
