Anyone else get the head rush?

Unread postby burtonridr » Mon 30 Jun 2008, 14:21:22

I get a sort of nauseating head rush each time another big story breaks in the news about PO.

I'm just thinking "woah slow down! Someone hit the breaks, tap them just a little please!"

Some days its almost surreal in a way...

The brain produces anandamide as a stress response. Maybe you are experiencing an anandamide high?

I try not to, that kind of stress is not good for the body. :(

I try to have an "oh, interesting, hmmm" reaction.

That head rush might be your blood pressure spiking.

Don't have a stroke! 8O

I dont want to sound like I get them all the time, its only been once or twice.

But it feels like you do as you reach the top of the hill on a roller coaster, just as you start to fall.

I was talking more about the addiction to being in the know, getting the latest information and watching it all start to crumble before your eyes. Everything is happening so fast, I didnt expect this.....

Part of me wants the oil valve to turn off tomorrow, and just make the whole transition in one swoop.

Instead I have to play the whole thing by ear and make adjustments one step at a time as directed by the economy. I wasnt fortunate enough to learn about peak oil a few years ago... I learned about it last September. So I get to rid the slide to the bottom.

But like they say "You dont have to out run the bear, you just have to out run the other person..."

Luckily for me I have been an avid outdoors man and boy scout my whole life. Lol I use to tell my mom I wanted to be a mountain man when I grew up and just live off the land  I didnt ever plan on having to use those skills to survive for an extended amount of time, but I'm glad I have learned what I know.

Guess I'm gonna get my wish huh :P

OK, that sounds more like an anxiety attack, and it's not a good thing. You need to unplug and get outside right now. I know it's not easy, it's like driving past a car accident. You almost have to look. But you really need to get away from it for a few days, or else as Ludi suggests, you might stroke out.

Yea, so you had an inkling...

Tell us what you did.

Nah!... I get more like a feeling of Deja Vu... It's stuff that PO crowd and a section of environmentalists going back to Meadows & Meadows in the 70's have been predicting for ages, so it's no surprise. Yup, I did read "The Limits to Growth" when it was first published and even had the oportunity to play about with the World Model on the University of London computer network (anybody else remember the early days of JANET?). The feeling is also for me more of being on a train on a single track railway that I can't get off - the destination is already known, even if exactly when we'll arrive at the various stations along the way is not.

I dont watch the news or turn on the internet much on the weekends.

I spend my evenings and weekends tending the garden, chickens, riding my bike around town, working out, drinking with the neighbors, BBQ with the neighbors, or just working around the house, etc...

I'm not going to stroke out.... Lol I'm 23 for crying out loud and it excellent physical condition.

I think I may have typed things in a way that lead to easy misinterpretation. My question should have been, is anyone enjoying this a little to much, like me? But wishes it would slow down a little?

Skeptic made a good point, it is kinda like what he just described...

Its like my life is on a track, I choose the stupid train I got on, but when I got on board I had no idea the train was going to crash. Now its moving to fast to try and jump off. Luckily I have control over where the train crashes, plus I get to go really fast, feel the wind blow through my hair, watch as I surpass everyone, narrowly escape death, live.... Not exactly the best simile

Stranger things have happened. It's good to hear you are taking the right steps, but remember: That's no garentee.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('burtonridr', 'I') think I may have typed things in a way that lead to easy misinterpretation. My question should have been, is anyone enjoying this a little to much, like me? But wishes it would slow down a little?

You did. I interpreted your words to mean you were experiencing actual physical symptoms, not your metaphorical ones. No harm done.

As for the pace of collapse? No, I kind of like it. It's like standing on the deck of the titanic, screaming "SEE! I TOLD YOU I SAW AN ICEBERG!" I'm still stuck fighting to get into the lifeboat with the rest of the meat puppets, but at least I get to enjoy my smug sense of satisfaction before I drown. And hey, at least I wasn't in steerage!

I have decided what pace I would prefer (as if it really matters).

I'm almost certain the un-prepared will not last the first winter in the event of a sudden collapse. Which would be better for the world as an ecosystem, but very tragic.

With a slow decline it is going to be tough and require a lot more ingenuity to stay ahead of the pack.... But I get more time to prep for the long haul.

I dont know, almost a year later and I still feel overwhelmed some days.

No you won't.

I read many historical novels about the back-when in the '70s and thought the same.

the deal is there were what: half a billion people on earth then?

How many people were in the US West in the 18th century do you think?

Better adapt what you know to the 21st century - and give up on the Kit Carson fantasy.
