If its truly a problem issue a few hunting permits to the admins and get it on.

Aint that hard to click the ban button.

The flip side is don't BE a troll. Just because you've been around here a while doesn't mean you can start trolling, spamming, flame-baiting, race-baiting or throwing ad homs.

We know you're all feeling stressed. But the more time we have to spend with long-time members who should know better, the less time we have to moderate newbies.

This isn't directed at anyone who's already posted in the thread -- just saying.

I have the feeling that those newer member cornucopian trolls are in reality old trolls, something in the way they write. Anyway, the ignore button is there...

Is there not some use in an intelligent reply to a troll that others who are less informed about the subject at hand may use to broaden their horizons? It seems to me, as a long lurker, that I have found posts by many here quite educational even when they are responding to rather questionably supported arguments. I say that thinking of people whom I think make excellent posts ... like MonteQuest, Dantespeak, Pup55, and quite a few others.

Part of learning is teaching also I think. I remember in my own profession (very retired now;-) .. see one, do one, teach one. The downslope peak of trolls might lead to less learning.

Hmm. Not a very nice post coming from a moderator. I didn't break any COC rules in this thread that I'm aware of.

I never said that it's ok for people who have been around here for a while to start trolling, spamming, flame-baiting, race-baiting or throwing ad homs.

No, I didn't mean you. That's why I said it wasn't directed at you. :)

Only real troll here is KTH. OF2's sunny outlook I'm just puzzled by, FreddyH's models are interesting stuff, even if he thinks we're "lunatics." Neither I'd call a troll (others have).

More rosy outlooks aren't something I'm vehemently opposed to. Short term that is, on the long term if we go hog wild on unconventional the planet will be baked Well Done instead of Medium Rare. :x Big Diff. There are respected commentators on peak oil who don't see us hurtling over a cliff at the moment, like Al-Husseini, who sees us on a plateau until 2015.

Having said that, I do fire back at KTH. I'm just wanting to set the record straight for people who might really believe what he says about us drowning in oil.

I don't mind rosy outlooks if people can support them with something other than "I just think it won't be so bad" etc. I'd like to see more supporting evidence.

I agree with you, Ludi. People are entitled to their opinions and are not Trolls if they can back up their statements. So let's try to be careful assigning labels to those we know are totally wrong.

What if we go the complete opposite? I think it will be far worse then the vast majority on here believe. Would I be considered a troll if I don't back it up?

 I love it. You always get straight to the point. I have already taken it up with the moderators privately. Now I am making a public plea.

Oh yeah, and congrats on the expert title! :-D

Let us not talk falsely now, because the hour is getting late.

The title is nothing but a word. An undeserved one at that for the most part. I only contribute gun information and a bit of food storage, not nearly what some posters here have done.

Now I'm curious. I've seen some fairly dystopian predictions around here.

I don't consider anyone a troll, actually. I would prefer people back up their arguments with evidence, if they want to be convincing. Just coming into a thread and saying "It will be WORSE! Much, much WORSE!" may be a way to present your opinion, but it probably won't convince anyone that your opinion is accurate.

Well I agree with Drifter and I'm not going to respond to five posters any longer.

The problem is not what they say, but how they say it.

Actually they were sometimes very rude, and since the moderators may have deleted some of the worst comments, it makes me appear like the bad one.

It's going to be bad folks on the down slope of PO. They can say what they want, we have to move on to the acceptance and action phase so we can deal with some very difficult problems ahead.

I entirely agree hence why I don't bother responding to most posts anymore, I don't feel that it's worth the time to argue my point. I just wanted to make a point that around here ultra cornucopians with low post counts are almost always labeled as trolls while hard core doomers aren't unless they become ultra vocal about it. This site is far from biased and I freely admit that I don't help the balance.

To me a troll is someone who deliberately posts things they know will stir up bad feelings and outrage. Usually such a person enjoys sitting back and watching everyone react.

Most cornucopians are just in the bargaining stage: "<insert new tech here> will make things all better!" It's grasping at the hope straws. :(

Here's an example of a post made this evening. Can someone explain what this has to do with PO, doomerism, or even energy?
(it was posted in Current Energy News)

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'H')alf of all people are below average in intelligience. Of those that aren't in the bottom half of THAT bell shaped curve, how many do you think have a CLUE what reserve growth is? Of those who THINK they know what reserve growth is, how many actually do?

That is the group I tend to speak towards, and to answer questions along the way for those looking for "move up". People who don't understand, don't have the ability to understand, or aren't interesting in understanding, they can think, believe or hallucinate anything they want because lets face it, it doesn't matter what they think on the topic.
