Looking through the manual for my new chainsaw and noticed this. Seeing it probably saved my life...

My wife use to work at a place that had to draw up these things. I'm guessing its all due to lawyers and lawsuits...

It reminds me of a frivolous lawsuit case I read about once.

A farmer sets up his ladder on a pile of frozen horse manure. The manure thawed and the ladder tipped over. He sued the ladder manufacturer.

The jury awarded him some stupid amount like $300,000.

That's pretty funny. I just checked my chainsaw manual and it has a lot of those don't do... pictures (don't saw from ladder, don't saw above shoulder height etc) but none for don't sit on the branch you are sawing !

I knew the lawyers were out of control when I saw a sticker on a Wal Mart push mower saying, "not for use as a hedge trimmer."

You KNOW some idiot tried that!

This is unconfirmed.....

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he ambulance responded to a frantic call concerning a neighbor's trip through an industrial tree shredder. It seems the individual had decided to prune his own trees, rather than hire a professional. Why not? After all, the local shop rented shredders that could make quick work of yard debris, including tree limbs up to 8 inches in diameter.

To save time (those fateful words) the neighbor had placed the shredder at the base of a great oak tree, where he could drop branches directly into the hopper. He intended to cut off the top third of the oak, since it had been killed by lightning.

With the shredder running wide open, the neighbor climbed his ladder to the first tree branch, stepped off the ladder, slipped, and fell. The paramedics found him very dead, half in and half out of the shredder's hopper, one leg shredded to the hip.

Not married, no kids, removed self from the gene pool.

"WARNING: Do not attempt to stop chain with hands or genitals."

The really scary thing about warnings like these is that someone most likely actually did what the warning advises against.

I still say get rid of them. The gene pool needs serious cleaning...
