Dunce of the Day Award

Unread postby MD » Thu 08 May 2008, 22:13:15

You will note my current label. It will be assigned (by highly arbitrary methods, so please commence with the whining immediately) to the most worthy poster of the day, who will wear the tag for a day.

Please post your nominations here.

{many thanks to our favorite cur, of Wisconsin, for the idea}

Ya know what ya do to a wayward cur, MD;

Ya tag him!
The legitimate object of government, is to do for a community of people, whatever they need to have done, but can not do, at all, or can not, so well do, for themselves -- in their separate, and individual capacities.

I thought I heard my name :)

The more I think about the idea the more I begin to wonder if I might be deserving of the tag... just don't be too surprised if I try to slip the collar and spend the day running the county.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he word "dunce" was originally a reference to Bl. John Duns Scotus, a 13th century scholastic theologian, whose books on theology, philosophy, and logic were University textbooks. His followers, termed "Dunsmen" or "Dunses", were later challenged about their system of hair-splitting and distinctions. Their obstinacy over an increasing array of challenges posed first by humanists and then by reformers, led to the term "dunses" to denote fools in general.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'D')uns Scotus accepted the wearing of conical hats to increase learning, in the belief that it would funnel knowledge to its wearer (and perhaps in emulation of wizards).

Hey I am the only village idiot. There can't be a dunce and a village idiot. That takes away from me being special.

What if you win the Dunce of the Day Award in addition to Village Idiot?! 8O You will be King (of all the idiots)!

What about a Douche of the Day? Say like in the HOF.

I feel your pain.

But that would be pretty slick if you could snag the Dunce cap in addition to the Village Idiot tag. Sort of like a peak oil hat trick or something.

Some folk just seem to be looking for a reason to whine.

Ok, don't worry.

A dunce can learn from the mistake and be redeemed.

A village idiot is forever.

So I think your "special" space is secure.

At least until another village idiot shows up. Then there will need to be a idiot death match.

Umm...doesn't a hat trick refer to three feats? Village Idiot, Dunce o' Day and what else?

Great, now we have to come up with a PO Calendar.

I nominate Cid for his eleven void of content posts because his browser had the maps too big that I posted to prove a point (they fit fine on mine).

Of course if most people are like me they go to the most recent page and I am afraid they would miss my historical perspective on the late great Ottoman Empire.
