My boyfriend who I have been dating is Jewish. He doesn't attend a temple or anything, but by definition, because his mother is jewish, that makes him as well. Anyways his brother Dave has decided to move to israel and teach there. He's not exactly orthodox yet he is very into the Jewish community. My boyfriend is clearly against it and thinks he is dumb to move there because of the mandatory military service and not a safe place really. How should we convince him not to go?

Maybe have him read these forums a little bit. Nobody here seems to have a positive outlook on the future of Israel, whether they are the usual antisemites or not.

Then probably Israel needs him more than ever now. Why don't you join him with your BF?

Perhaps you could convince your sister to start dating your boyfriend's brother, and then she might convince him to stay here.

where is that magic place in space or time where Jewish population wasn't sickled and scythed every once in awhile?

The more you tell him not to go, the more set he will be to go. I would advise that he hold tightly on to his passport (assuming it is not an Isreali passport).
He may want (or need) to get out of there quickly.

I wouldn't try persuading him. State your beliefs then tell him if that's what he's decided that you trust his judgment and you'll support his going.

A man's mind works better when he's left to figure it out himself. I bet a penny he'll reconsider after a couple months of thinking about it. :-D

Also I forgot to mention that he is giving up his U.S. citizenship for an Israeli one.

I don't have a sister nor would my boyfirend and I wouldn't consider moving there. I am not Jewish either nor do I practice a religion of any kind.

Drayor I am not antisemitic at all. If I was I clearly wouldn't be dating a Jewish person. I am also offended that you would assume that. In my mind every person has a right to believe whatever they choose and I would not judge them for it.

An interesting point I brought up to him was based on this historical fiction novel I read called the Gates of Zion. Apparently when the Jewish state was created, many Rabbis were against dividing the country and respected there Muslim neighbors. They pointed out that a Jewish state should not be formed until the Messiah returns. Does anyone know if that is accurate?

Extremely dumb idea. Has he never heard of dual citizenship?

Some Jewish rabbis (and probably some Christians) do regard the current State of Israel as illegitimate, because it was not founded by the Messiah himself. Neturei Karta is an anti-Israel Orthodox Jewish organization.

That will be when they stop freeloading billions from the US taxpayer (who doesn't enjoy the welfare and medicare that Jews enjoy in Israel).

You managed to hook yourself a Jewish boyfriend ! You lucky girl, my Mom always told me to get a Jewish husband if I could. She says they are good providers, not always after you for yucky sex, and they're very crafty, whatever that means.

I have a female friend who's father is Jewish and her Mom constantly tells her not to marry a Jew. I guess your Mom is not married with a Jew :)

Did you know that the Israelis and Russians are the biggest buyers of land in Thailand right now? Now I can see why the Russians are, but I think the Israelis know that war is coming soon.

jboogy you are hilarious. I'm hope he's not in it for just the sex. I would never ask him to provide for me though, I just can't be a gold digger. It's funny though because he is very close to his family. My family on the other hand is a wreck. At least he believes my peak oil ramblings. He wants us to move to a farm. Doesn't sound like a bad idea to me.

There is plenty of good land in Israel - farms that were confiscated from Palestinian refugees. This became state land. It is not sold, but rented to Jews only. So unless you convert you will just be hired help.

Also your sons and daughters will get drafted into the military to keep the Palestinians from returning to their homes.
