Movie - 'The Kingdom'

Unread postby emersonbiggins » Thu 07 Feb 2008, 02:00:11

I watched 'The Kingdom' tonight on DVD. I liked the intro scene to the movie, as it gave a timeline of the intertwining of Saud and U.S. relations, and all of the fallout that has precipitated in the wake of that relationship. The movie, while quite good, tends towards the absolutist worldview, not surprising given the circumstances of ME politics.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

The Kingdom + Syriana = Saudi Arabia for Dummies? :-D

I liked it. Interesting take on relations with SA I thought.

It has some excellent action scenes towards the end of the flick.

The bottom line? I thought it a warning shot about how volatile things in SA could easily become, if they aren't already. It could be far worse than that one incident portrayed in the beginning.

It was a B-director's attempt to imitate the style of Paul Greengrass.

In spite of the action, violence, etc, I thought it was pretty much a Hollywood "fluff piece." Maybe that's because I spend so much time exposed to the reality of what is going on ...

Maybe it's a good movie to wake up some folks who aren't "into" this stuff (PO et al) don't realize how volatile things really are.

As a movie, I gave it a C+ for myself. But others might find it somewhat enlightening.
