Yo, Ma Bell wasn't anything even remotely close to communism. It was about as far away as one can get. Yikes. Just ask me. I'll tell you.

What I miss about Ma Bell was how it was a reflection of the simplicity of those times. One phone company. Darn it, I even remember my home phone number from growing up in Seattle in the late 50's and early 60's. TA4-2871.

I always thought the worst thing about state run communism was that communism was supposed to do away with the state. There was an inherent conflict of interest that people like Stalin and Brezhnev took advantage of. Without a more formal and answerable structure to their state no one could stop them from abandoning the dream and introducing despotism.

Yeah, I like the idea of communism. I also think that it can't be rushed and, if it is to appear, must evolve out of capitalism. If true communism fails to appear what we will have is anarchy and the rule of the strong. We will see a return of the feudal cycle, without end.

rather, communism should be the result of a democratic process but that's not likely to happen. The most you can hope for is a more social system as a result; IMO socialism without democracy is not real socialism.

Rich successful modern western-style societies aren't socialist or capitalist....they are mixed economies.

In all western countries some sectors of the economy are "socialized" and some remain capitalist. Even the capitalist companies operate only with some degree of government oversight In come cases there is competition between state-owned businesses or services and similar services available from the private sector, such as in Britain where the NHS co-exists with private doctors and dentists.

I used to be a communist. And a Darn good one at that! Travelled the world learning all about it. It was a very interesting way to spend my youth.

Now I'm only a communist sympathizer because, my heart is still with this ideal, I have to buckle down and do my part getting our family ready for the Big Disaster. And that will take a different kind of knowledge and a whole lot of money. Too bad.

Now, again I ask, where's my title?? I earned it and deserve it. I will respectfully settle for 'pinko' if there's a problem with the term, 'communist.'
