Dubya's dive continues

We're a dissatisfied people. We can't stand our president, we're disgusted with congress, and we think the country is going to hell in a handbasket:

There must be a better way

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')s President Bush attempts to revive the controversial immigration reform bill he supports, the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll finds that Republicans are abandoning the president, which has dropped his job-approval rating below 30 percent -- his lowest mark ever in the survey.

But he isn’t the only one whose support is on the decline in the poll. Congress’ approval rating has plummeted eight points, bringing it below even Bush’s. And just one in five believe the country is on the right track, which is the lowest number on this question in nearly 15 years.

So, how do we get out of this? Is the system fixable, or do we have no chance of ever again having political leadership we can respect? Is the system permanently and irretrievably busted?

I mentioned a while ago. that my 2 cent prediction is that we'll stumble along until shortly after the next election.

When we have a new president, and we still can't/won't leave Iraq, and are still getting nothing fixed... I think at that point people will start getting really upset.

Apparently Bush is a real hit in Albania, as long as he keeps his watch out of sight.

Maybe he should buy himself a "little white house" and just hang out over there. I am thinking he may even be able to find some brush that needs chopping, and likewise a pickup truck to haul it around in.

I am thinking of setting up a special bank charitable account to be called the "Bush Albanian White House Fund". Would anybody be willing to make a donation of say $10 or even $20?

Any speculation that W makes it down to Nixonian levels of approval?

Not that approval ratings matter much. Our system of government doesnt allow disapproval manifest itself in the form of change until election time.

I think democrats caving on the war supplemental is responsible in large part for their tanking approval ratings. Americans want out of Iraq , no ifs ands or buts, we elected democrats to do this , they didn't have the balls to carry out our wishes , ergo , they suck too.Ferrel G , you totally lost me with the body fluids thing but it sounds interesting , could you please expand on your thesis?

How much better is a two party system vs. a one party system?

the people have corrupted the system; the system has corrupted the people.

I don't think we the pepples' corrupted the system, BAS , wealth tends to lean towards monopolization , wealth almost universally tends to covet power, TPTB use wealth to aquire power thru political donations, politicians reward the donations thru friendly legislation . (clinton and repubs. passage of bill lessening restrictions on media consolidation), etc.So you have fewer and fewer people/conglomerates controlling what most people see and hear. Third party candidates are effectively cut out of the equation by refusing them a platform. example: dennis kucinich, when thought of at all, is pretty much thought of as the short guy with the big ears. and he's a democrat for gods sake! politicians and big media have no interest in seeing things change, they've invested too much time and energy getting things just the way they like em'. that's why this whole net neutrality things going down . the web has pretty effectively given a voice to whoever wants one and it has scared big media and the entrenched power structure like you wouldn't believe. How has most of the country turned against this war when the MSM (with few exceptions)has done nothing but pound the war drums since day one?the internet giving truth a voice.I watch washington journal on c-span in the morning and I can't believe how many callers have been saying they want 3rd party candidates, anybody but whats being offered. Unfortunately the way things are now , viable 3rd party candidates need media exposure to succeed and they're not getting it , yet.The internet hasn't fully matured yet but when it does it will be a national force.
