They use the money to get laid. One way or another.

More generally, they use it to advance their status. Some probably use it to assuage their inner anxiety about their self-worth. But mostly I think they just use it to find more opportunities to get laid with people who would otherwise be out of their league.

Of course, the real answer could be far more complex than that...

They invest a lot of it. He who dies with the biggest bank balance wins.

A lot of these people end up obsessed with the idea of building a physical legacy, so they put money into political and cultural establishments such as think tanks and art galleries. What to do when you've got nearly half a billion dollars and can no longer rise to the occasion? Build a faux-Greek edifice and carve your name on the front. Then a few years later everyone can see what an important guy you were, and what great taste you had.

I still don't get it. With that much money, you could buy a new Ferrari every day, and still have 50 million dollars to play around with. Are these folks just trying to add more zeroes to their net worth? If they were compassionate, civic minded, and clued in, you would think they could plow some of that back into their own communities (countries) just to keep the ball rolling.

Even at the paltry sum of 1 million/year, I have no idea what I would do with all that money after a few years. Even after I bought everything I could possibly need for the rest of my life, what would I do with the rest of the money.

The disparity of it all makes me go numb. Most people somehow manage to find a way to live on $x/day. This could get ugly. Not sure which side will prevail.

Well, I'd buy a nice airplane and get my pilot's license.

Then I'd buy a nice big house somewhere out west and build a little airport next door. Maybe build a nice big greenhouse too.

Then I'd stockpile, stockpile, and stockpile some more. Guns, food, water, seeds, tools, and the rest.

Then I'd build an underground disco and invite a bunch of groovy people to go dancing. Or maybe have an above ground, rotating disco. I haven't decided yet.

I dunno, I guess I'd save the rest.
