Latest Waste: Check out this monument to waste

Easter Island had their statues, Texas will have this:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')RLINGTON, Texas (AP) - The Dallas Cowboys are taking their distinctive hole-in-the-roof design with them to their $1 billion new stadium.

Only this time, the playground will feature a sliding lid to keep the elements out. That's a must considering there's going to be a 60-yard-long, 50-foot-high scoreboard hanging over the football field.
With a glowing, glass facade, humongous sliding doors that can open both ends and 80,000 seats - 100,000, if necessary - the Cowboys sure are aiming for the kind of showplace you'd expect from a club that bills itself as "America's Team."

What a senseless waste of money, energy and resources to clorify America's stupid over indulgent addiction to entertainment, sponsored by cheap oil!

Fortunately we NZers balked at an insane new stadium plan for Auckland.

Jerry Jones wanted the city of Dallas to cough up $600 million and Mayor Miller said no. Dozens of old people living in Arlington got evicted under eminent domain. Football doesn't bring in tax dollars like the American Airlines center. At least with more frequent Basketball and Hockey games it brings in a lot more revenue than 7 home games or a superbowl could. I'm just glad it's not on our side of town. Over here near Frisco we have a new ballpark and arena for AAA baseball, soccer, and hockey.

Screw the Cowboys. They are all big hat and no cattle.

Here's a thought, how about we try a little capitalism here?

Want to build a stadium? FIND INVESTORS.

If I want to build a 25 screen super movie theater, I have to find people willing to financially back the project. Why should football stadiums get a single penny of my money when movie theaters, bowling alleys, video arcades, bars, restaurants, nightclubs, and other entertainment centers can get by without a government subsidy?

I find it disgusting that they would build something like a stadium with MY money and then charge me hundreds of dollars for tickets in order watch them play. If you want to build a stadium with public money, at least have the decency to give the public a return on investment.

But where does most of the money go? That's right. Overpaid athletes and coaches. It's utterly infuriating.

Want to know what's killing the American college system? SPORTS. Giving scholarships to athletes instead of scholars is simply unacceptable. And the worst part, they give these scholarships with public money. What exactly is the point of stealing from the science departments to pay for uniforms and coaches? Ever wonder why America is falling behind in terms of math/science skills?

Stuff like this just pushes my buttons.... :x

Agreed...

NFL and college football is the only thing I will miss about the entertainment industry.

My Titans finally got a badass QB and I hope he is able to win a superbowl before the nation goes bankrupt. Thankfully, with his talent, it should happen next year...
