Quantitative vs. Qualitative in the age of powerdown

Unread postby neocone » Fri 13 Oct 2006, 20:45:51

It seems that our civilization can for now indulge in laws without reference to the actual physical and natural constraints those principles may have. For exemple welfare programs that support the weak in society regardless of their ability to pay back in work or energy. Equal opportunity laws, free education for all, etc...

But as we slowly start to lack the energy to compensate for the drainage this counter current activities create vs the 3 laws of thermodynamics, then it would be natural for the overwhelming entropic tendencies to take hold.

For exemple in a collapsed Somalia I doubt you would find a 401k program when you work for your local warlord or a decent welfare program. Rather the law of the strongest applies in the most primitive way.

So it seems that our "principles" and legal system are also a temporary luxury. And what is in fact the third world is a natural state of things to come.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('neocone', 'S')o it seems that our "principles" and legal system are also a temporary luxury.

Our Principles, legal and religious systems are

Social Constructs

They only exists because society enforces them. Should society fails to function due to lack of adequate energy, then some of the "least important" social constructs would be abandon in order to save the others. As for which social construct would be (the first to be) abandon, would be determined by politics.
