$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')o hear the American government and its Israeli allies tell it, the struggle in the Middle East is a straightforward black-and-white one, which pits the Forces of Goodness (Washington and Tel Aviv) against "terrorists" and terrorist-supporting states like Iran and Syria. This narrative enables the Americans and the Israelis to mask their own agendas – regional hegemony, territorial expansion (on Israel's part), and access to cheap oil – behind the "war on terrorism" rubric. It also lets them lump together groups – including Hamas, Hezbollah, and al-Qaeda – that are not only different but opposed to each other's interests, their only commonality being that they are Arab, Muslim, and armed. However, every once in a while, reality intrudes and the official narrative suffers a direct hit: the latest such incident is the recent attack on the U.S. embassy in Damascus.

Re: Who attacked the U.S. embassy in Damascus – and why?

Unread postby rogerhb » Thu 14 Sep 2006, 18:00:42

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'J')und al-Sham, loosely affiliated with al-Qaeda, has claimed responsibility for a number of attacks in the Levant, including the assassination of a Hezbollah official. Now this last certainly seems like an odd task for a purportedly Islamist group to undertake. The ostensible motivation for this attack is the Shi'ite-Sunni rivalry: the Shi'ite Hezbollah is considered heretical, and therefore a target of Takfiri retribution, yet the confluence of interests between these "Soldiers of Syria" with the soldiers of Israel in the IDF is striking. Another oddity: the links between Jund al-Sham and a recently uncovered Israeli spy network in Lebanon.

US embassy in Ottawa looks like a nuclear plant

Unread postby Denny » Mon 12 Nov 2007, 02:30:24

This is the new U.S. embassy in Ottawa. Its right up against the street, with high chain link fencing and has no space for trees or gardens. And, that strange centre stack. A very grey, almost Stalitnist look.

Sorry to be a critic, but since we both inhabit such open countries and open, airy grounds and a less formidable building would be much more appropriate.

Without defending that monstrosity, I wish I could find a picture of the Canadian embassy to Ireland. It's the same architectural school, minus only the chain link fence.

Shh, actually it is a submarine designed to float when global warming causes the submergence of Ottawa.

Perhaps symbolically, the trees in the architects model became car parking in the real version. The trees in the actual picture are across the street from the embassy.

I beleive the trees were deleted to allow a better planned and effective barrier to prevent bad people from doing bad things to the building.

US embassy burning in Belgrad

Unread postby TonisD » Thu 21 Feb 2008, 16:29:48

Demonstrators protesting Kosovo's independence from Serbia threw rocks, broke windows, set fires and tried to pull down an American flag at the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade today, a witness said. A spokesman for the U.S. State Department said no one was in the embassy at the time

the US Empire is weaker than it appears. They may be able to keep the US embassy/spying center out of business.

I hope the Serbs have been training their kids in marksmanship well. I wish every victory to Serbia!

Because the Serbs are Aryans. The Kosovars are Muslim, non-Aryan, invaders.

Some of those young, cute, Serbian chicks can really shoot. One of them was I believe the world's top ranked international rifle shooter. I showed a brochure about her to a Serbian friend, he was impressed. The guy's son is an olympic hopeful in swimming BTW, I hope he wins the gold, and does it as a Serb.
