$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('oowolf', '.')..Algae apparently don't need "self-awareness" to know a cool Earth is a good Earth.
Now, in an eyeblink of geologic time, humans have come to undo 3 million years of unrelenting effort by the living Earth to protect itself from the star which created it.
Now we have come to destroy it all.
Why?
What is there in us that hates life so much? Even our own?
Kurt Vonnegut thinks that maybe it's because our cerebral cortexes accidentally became over-developed, causing us to think too much. We need to be busy, busy, busy all the time or we go nuts from boredom. Idle hands being the devil's playground, we're compelled to think up new goodies to make that we can fool around with. Hence the existence of Personal Watercraft.
We were fine until we got a new toy to play with: Crude oil. Once we figured out that we could make virtually anything out of it, we got even busier and busier, and the fate of the biosphere, and all it's inhabitants, was sealed.
