$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Novus', '
')We are not talking about your average Christian here, we are talking about the real nutcases.
An Extremist Christian is someone when you talk to them about peak oil they blow you off because it is just part of God's plan. Jesus won't allow for petro-collapse or we will just get raptured. They don't want to hear about giving up consumerism and the American way of life. I find this highly ironic since Jesus thought the world was too materialistic 2000 years ago.
well, you know ... as long as we pay our taxes on time, they let us run around without a straitjacket '8)'
it's amazing who you will run into at YMCA gyms that would fall into the demographic category of "upper middle class/ wealthy".
the Y i went to for about 8 years served the encinitas-rancho santa fe population in north county coastal san diego.
the Xtian viewpoints i heard expressed in conversation in the weight room & the hot tub were - something else !
based on the people i met there, well into 6 figure incomes, degreed, "pillar of society" types - i would say that what you are calling "Extremist Christian" is very normal.
if i injected a comment that would advocate Christian values, for example, "wouldn't it be a little more Christian if we stopped spreading nuclear waste around Iraq in the form of deplete uranium munitions", well, that got laughed at. "you're worried about DUST !" (yes, when it's toxic and radio-active, i AM concerned about dust).
so, i checked "US government", though i would add, "gym room supervisors who freak out if you use the smith press to do high-bar leg stretches".
