The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

Yep. Boys will be boys.

Hard to see in the dark, but there appeared to be some heavy stuff down the line. 50-caliber at least?

I must say that I am very impressed with that level of firepower.

We need those people on the front lines of Operation Iranian Liberation. :)

Alas, all of those beautiful firearms are going obsolete.

Right at the end of the video, they show a few frames of the advanced prototype. Conceptually, it's interesting.

That said, nothing can beat the smell of gunpowder wafting through the early morning air. 8)

Ah yes! Nothing is more stimulating than gunpowder residue found on the outside of the right hand between the index finger and the thumb from. Like a grilled tenderloin steak or the smell of a new car that has just been financed for 60 months. The kind of musk that come a dirty Blazer round. I love that fresh from the gun range scent -wards off all predators. Second only to Orvis' Wet Gun Dog Colongne.

Wow, hearing damage to the max, most of them weren’t wearing muffs - and seemed to prefer it that way. Years ago, I was at a full-auto bash, though nothing like that. The best part about my story is that the cops showed up! They said we were frightening some people in the area with the machine gun rips. They asked us to try to keep it to short bursts and left! One of the guys there actually had a silencer license and had a silenced H&K 9mm. That was a nice gun, real quiet, not much more than the rapping of the action going back and forth. Ah, the days of my youth... Back to playing Unreal.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'w')hat's unreal?

http://www.unreal.com/

I'm not so convinced about this dread thing. The 2 seconds they actually showed of the thing firing didn't give any sort of perspective to tell how accurate it is or anything. Plus, I don't care what they say. If that thing has is firing at 120,000 rounds per minute it's gonna have hellacios recoil and be a real mother to keep fed (that's 12 times faster than the fastest existing gun BTW.) If the accuracy is decent, it might have a place on an AC-130. Don't see any way a Hummve is gonna be able to tote that much ammo. Sounds to me like mostly a lab geek trying to sell a concept with exagerated claims frankly.

As for the guns at Knob Creek being obscelete, I think that can be blamed more on the Hughes Amendment than on the dread.

Actually in theory the design is solid, and in lab tests it is a working design. Provided his design is how I think.
You can make one at home in fact. Its essentially a centrifugal gun. I had seen designs to make a BB gun like this. Wasnt much, something like 30-60 fps or some such.
Point is, in theory its a perfectly working design scaled up. I assume thats all he did was just scale up and modernize the design. Your rounds per minute is essentially whatever your feed rate is. The faster you can feed projectiles the faster your rate of fire. Since the "chamber" itself doesnt have a bolt to do the loading but rather just sends the projectile on its way your limit to rounds per minute is how fast you can shove the balls into the chamber.

That said, I'm still skeptical of 100k+ rounds per minute.

That I have no problem with. There's two big questions in my mind. 1: Ok....so the BB's come slinging out of the impeller. How accurately can you aim them? I'm betting not very. If you're going to send it through a barrel, how do you get it out of the impeller and into the barrel precisely? Remember this thing is supposedly going 9,000 fps. 2: Every time you dump a round into the impeller, it's going to suck up kinetic energy. A 30 cal lead ball is about 40 grains. Going 9000fps it's carrying 14.6 kilojoules of kinetic energy. At 120,000 rounds per minute that would be 30 megawatts of power assuming perfect efficiency! That's going to take one heck of a big alternator! Not to mention how much a 30 megawatt electric motor weighs. And the fact that the HumVee engine now has to be 40,000 horsepower just to turn the alternator. Ohh and it's using 11 pounds of ammo a second!

Thats kind of a sexy word when you say it.....Do it again.

To your other questions....I have no idea. I could only guess at how it all works.
