The Origin of Modern Man

Unread postby Aaron » Sun 11 Jun 2006, 10:00:40

Where did our modern innovations of civilization & language come from?

Beer

:)

The Egyptian pyramids were built on beer. Stonecutters, slaves and public officials were paid in a type of beer called 'kash' – which is where the word 'cash' originated.

Furthermore, the advent of this beer economy created modern mathematics, as ancient peoples were forced to keep track of this new beer-based bartering.

Much later, tea & coffee created the first globalized economy.

But it's good old beer that invented modern man.

No wonder our world is so farked up... it's just a keg party that got out of hand.

Kinda makes me feel better somehow...
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

Certainly it wouldnt kill you, as the local water supply often would.

the brewing process (ie the alcohol) kills lots of nasty pathogens and parasites. Especially important in cities prior to the development of modern water treatment and piped supply. Most Londoners prior to the development of the main drains and piped water supply in the 19th century didnt drink the water. Too dangerous. They would mainly drink 'small beer' ie low alcohol beer. a small beer was Samual Pepys standard breakfast, which he would buy from a pub while walking to work.

Ditto tea. boiling water and then adding tea ( which has an antibiotic effect) to it is an excellent way of making it safe to drink.

All the more reason to become a home brewer. I've been home brewing for about 10 years and judging homebrew contests for the past 5. It's a great hobby, you meet all kinds of great people and you're learning an important survival skill.

Home brewing is something to do on a lazy Sunday afternoon or with fellow brewers. I feel a certain feeling when brewing, kind of like "this is the way it's supposed to be," making and drinking beer.

Yer drunk...

Cash - 1593, from M.Fr. caisse "money box," from Prov. caissa, It. cassa, from L. capsa "box" (see case), originally the money box, but the secondary sense of the money in it became sole meaning 18c. Verb meaning "to convert to cash" (as a check, etc.) is first attested 1811. Like most financial terms in Eng., ultimately from It. (cf. bankrupt, etc.). Not related to (but influencing the form of) the colonial British cash "Indian monetary system, Chinese coin, etc.," which is from Tamil kasu, Skt. karsha, Sinhalese kasi.
