We Need Some Optimism

Unread postby KingM » Tue 23 May 2006, 16:54:26

Even though I am an optimist, I appreciate this forum for all of the information about Peak Oil that it brings.

Because doomers outnumber the so-called cornucopians by about 5-1 on this board, I think there should be a place where optimists can go to discuss energy issues. That is not to say that some pessimism is not warranted from time to time, but this would not be a board for those who believe not only that society is doomed, but that it should be doomed.

Here is the forum that I have created, as of yet unpopulated.

Here are The Opinionator Energy pages, from which you can also reach the forum or read some non-doomerish articles about energy and peak oil.

I agree, that sums up a lot posts here. I think there is such a thing as a optimistic doomer. I don't kid myself with pipe dreams that ethanol or tar sands will maintain our lifestyle. I think big changes are coming. At the same time despite our carlessness, I believe we are redeemable and still have a future. I'm not saying a individual should try and save humanity, that is too much emotional baggage for anyone. Maybe instead we can help individuals and create a real impact rather than start recycling our trash and carpooling.
If you give a man a fish you will have kept him from hunger for a day. If you teach a man to fish he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

Staying hopeful is as neccessary as oxygen. You stay hopeful until you die.
