I heard her interviewed today on my favorite radio program: NPR. She said that she disagreed with her beloved grandfather. She said she didn't think that sex was the prime motivator of human behavior. She appreciated his accomplishments in changing our thinking about unconscious processes, but she thinks that the primary motivation of human beings is to seek the respect and recognition of others. The evidence seems to me to bear her out. "Power" and "recognition" does seem to be what it's all about. I'm sure her grandfather would have said, "sure but the motive is only to get sex" . Who knows!
