Just a trivial snippet:

The phrase "gas mileage" is currently one of the top search terms at the search portal dogpile.com

So it seems that even a small rise in fuel costs is causing a lot of concern.

Imagine what would happen if today's price say trebled ...

Perhaps "ride sharing", "van pool", "bicycle commuting" will bubble up to the top. And the servers with online transit schedule information may be struggling with all the new traffic. Dare to dream...
