I saw a F-22 the other day..

Unread postby 12amps » Thu 04 May 2006, 12:42:31

Hey, I was driving home from work on I-20 going Westbound and on the other side of the 3-lane highway I saw from a distance lots of security (not cops, but were in black SUVs and had the red/blue lights thingys) there were at least five or six of them. They were stopped and parked on the side of the highway. At first I though it was construction or an accident had happened. Until I got closer and realized they were protecting a OVERLOAD truck (the annoying ones that have that yellow banner that says OVERLOAD and take up two lanes) Then I realized that the cargo was a F-22!
At first it looked more or less like a UFO, becuase it was very large and completely rapped in grey, then I realized it was the contour of the F-22 except with it wings clipped out it looked very ood.

This was the first time I saw a F-22 in real life, and I must admit, this fighter jet was a LOT larger than I expected it to be. With its wings on it could easily take up all three lanes of the highway.

How often does this kind of thing happen? Has anyone else seen any thing wierd being transported on highways lately??

Back in 98 I used to play F-22 DiD TAW (Total Air War) and at the time it was a state of the art simulator. I just didn't expect to see a F-22 in real life, the size and technology really is amazing. Too bad so sad in a few years the Air Superiority Fighter will have nothing left to worth protecting.....

I think the real question is "Why are they moving state-of-the-art fighter craft BY TRUCK east toward the I-95?"

What threat to the eastern seaboard do they percieve that would necessitate moving aircraft by truck?

now that I think about it, wasn't there a story recently about insurance companies pulling coverage from certain eastern states?

Maybe now's a good time to start thinking about that ranch in Colorado...

I don't get it, what are you suggesting? Russia coming over to America?? Becuase why else would the F-22 be needed?
A single F-22 could take on 20 PLAAF J-11's simuntanelousy.

The F-22 sadly will never be used to its potential. No one good left to fight...

I'm not suggesting anything. I'm just asking questions. As you say, the F-22 is overkill for just about anything else out there (Although I vaguely remember an advanced EU fighter program, though I have no information on it at present).

So where was it going and why? And is there a connection between this and the insurance cancellations?

Free, thanks, I play that sim a lot too.

But IMHO the best F-22 fight simulator (EVEN though it is almost 8 years old dinosaur!) is still hands down the F-22 TAW (Total Air War) by DiD (Digital Image Design)

This game was the granddaddy of all fight simulators. It has a certain 'feel' and immersion fun-factor to it that no other sims even today can begin to compare with! Sadly the company went out of business from the dot-com /tech bust and the game is no longer sold. Many who have never gotten a chance to get to know what a true gem this hidden treasure is will have a change now:

And for old times sake:

Click here to download F-22 Total Air War (TAW) FULL by DiD

http://rapidshare.de/files/19936645/TAW ... s.exe.html

Enjoy!

Incase that doesn't work try this link here:
http://rapidshare.de/files/20103149/TAW ... s.rar.html

and in case THAT doesn't work try downloading it using p2p file sharing program such as
morpheus, OR spend the money and buy it online at ebay or amazon.

Here is an absolute bare-bones version of TAW FULL version, less than 50mb!
(thats 25mb smaller than the DEMO of TAW!!) http://rapidshare.de/files/20127284/F22TAW.rar.html

And for those of you sad sad people still on 56k modem, get flashget and
I split it into four files here:
http://rapidshare.de/files/20128930/F22 ... 1.rar.html

http://rapidshare.de/files/20129141/F22 ... 2.rar.html

http://rapidshare.de/files/20129247/F22 ... 3.rar.html

http://rapidshare.de/files/20129439/F22 ... 4.rar.html

It's abandonware as far as I'm concerned. Enjoy. :)

Thanks for the upload, I will try it out as soon as I get home!

I was always fascinated by flight sims, but recently particularly about the inner workings of them (even if I don't get it), you surely know the open source simulator www.flightgear.org, great stuff.

The F-22 is indeed a big bitch. Shes also the most advanced aircraft to ever take flight.
I wouldnt want to be sent up knowing I was going to have to tangle with a Raptor.

The good news is, you'd be dead before you even knew it was coming I guess.

It would be interesting trying to start that bird without knowing what you are doing...

But I am more of a vintage plane fan, I think I will stay with IL-Sturmovik for relaxation, can't wait til Oleg Maddox Battle of Britain comes out....(and I didn't even try LOMAC yet, but I imagine it's pretty boring)

while we are on the subject of simulators, here's a free
space simulator that is very accurately model and physics is fairly nice:

http://orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/orbit.html

And you could download the Apollo Saturn V addon for the sim

http://nassp.sourceforge.net/

take a look, almost nostalgic..... too bad we won't be going back to the moon anytime soon, or EVER for that matter.....

You need a good comp to run it properly. It's got a mission editor and about 8 planes to fly but the F-22 ain't one of them, most are Russian. I spent all my time flying the F-15. Never got around to going online with it but overall - one of the best combat flight sims ever made but some claim to have tech problems with it.

Yes I understand that it's one of the best - if not the best - and realistic jetfighter simulations out there, but the limitation of 8 planes and lack of modability is exactly why I thought it was boring.
I would like to fly the Eurofighter or F22 among others.
Imagine if people could create their own planes and maps with this game, it would be the best in the world...

By the way, whoever likes flightsims get yourself a trackIR equipment, it will enhance your skills and immersion immensely... (and no I don't get commission, but if you ever tried it you will understand...)

Thanks for the space-simulator links 12amps, I remember looking into this years ago, but there has been quite some progress!

F22 Lightning 2 by Novalogic was one of my first computer games. It was also the one I most fondly remembered. Too bad it won't run on XP.

I can still remember my dad playing it. He took off, went inverted, and ejected into the runway. All by accident. Another time he was coming in to land, but didn't pull his nose up. My brother and I kept reminding him, until at the last second he ejected out of a ball of fire, Bruce Willis style.

Ah what memories.

But I still think Falcon 4.0 is the most complex sim of all time. The manual is literally a binder. I was going to take a picture of the table of contents, but it's 14 pages long. 27 Chapters, plus appendices, probably around 500 pages or more. It's a complete goddam primer to aviation.

PMDG 744 is the most complex sim of all time. I kid you not, google it.

For noobs, it will take you a LONG while just to figure out how to start the engines. (like after half an hour of reading the engine sequence start of the 250+ page operating manual)

In terms of realism and complexity, I'm sorry but Falcon doesn't even come close to PMDG 744.

Lol that's priceless...

Poor pilot though, they probably tried everything else until they believed him that he really couldn't open it...

When he finally got out he should have said:"Oh you meant THAT button!?"
