Welcome To Orange County!

It's great to work here in the Newport Beach-Costa Mesa area. This is where the cornucopia empties out!

Who cares about prices like these? We can handle it:

The dream is alive - Hummer limos, palm trees, and Del Taco:

Pastures of plenty, folks! Life is good in Costa Mesa!

*Wait a minute! Do you hear that? Sounds like rolling thunder or something, off in the distance. What do you suppose it is?*

Looking at this tasteless show of affluence, you can see why 50% of the world want to become American and the other 50% is glad it isn't ...

Well, Laguna Beach is a much more entertaining show.

Who is more promiscuous:

Anaheim-esque areas OR
the San Fernando valley? (Burbank, Van Nuys, etc)

And when I visited LA, why the heck does I-5 go from moving at 15mph in the OC with like 12 lanes but then it goes all the sudden to SIX lanes with traffic going at 1mph...?

Actually, if we did a real poll on this topic, I'm pretty sure that 100% of the 3rd world would like to have such problems - where to park the damn Hummer! France, probably not... Admit it - most people would prefer to be rich and dissatisfied as apposed to dirt poor and hopeless.

C'mon folks, lets face it. Even as things spiral downwards, there will be a small % of the population living large. Will it be safe?

Frankly, I feel the level of outrage (concerning the disparity between the haves and have nots) is currently way below where it will be shortly.

Now if someone would just do that with HMVs, maybe we could outdo Easter Island.

I was on the way home from work one afternoon, and passed a stretch Hummer on the highway in my Honda Insight. In fact, I paralleled them for a dozen seconds or so. Apparently it had been leased for a UT sports party or something--a couple of co-eds flashed me the "Hook 'em Horns" hand sign. Since I'm a UT alumnus myself, I gave them the "Hook 'em Horns" hand sign back.

I'm glad they didn't run me over!

I'm gonna do it--get a license plate on my silver Honda Insight that reads "PEAK OL". My license is due next month.

so much anger.

and the gesture would have accomplished what?

PeakOiler did exactly the right thing. He demonstrated that people driving fuel efficient cars are not dull stick-in-the mud, sour people.
Let the kids have their fun, it will be over soon enough.

Besides, the irony of an Insight (with a one liter engine) passing a stretch Hummer is too delicious.

Stretch Hummers, 'sclades and Navigators are pretty popular in So Cal. Most are owned by small entepreneurs who rent them out for proms, quincerias, weddings, funerals etc.

Flicking one of them off is like flicking off a delivery van or taxicab or tour bus. It is Fu King We Todd Ed and likely indicates some other um, "issues".

This will all be over soon and jerry springer rejects will be living in these permanently parked hummers. It's kinda sad to be so addicted to oil and still think everything is peachy while your pumping $3.50 gas. How tragic.
