What kind of person are you?

Unread postby arocoun » Fri 07 Apr 2006, 18:59:03

I've read the forums a bit after a relatively long absence, and reading some things got me thinking: What kind of person are you? What do you stand for? And, most importantly, what will you do when trouble comes? Because, more than likely, what kind of person you are and how you will react to desperate situations are inextricably linked.

Are you spreading your skill and knowledge to anyone who will listen, or stocking up and keeping quiet for your own good? When government grabs for more power at any cost, will you be fighting for it, fighting against it, or remaining neutral? When someone comes knocking at your door for help, will you share what little you have, send them away, or kill them and take anything you can from them? Will you support a communist revolution, protect a capitalist system, or fight against government control of the economy altogether?

I'm interested in the numbers of different types of people here.

"weirdo" best describes me, I guess. I try not to have any sanctimonious delusions about my motives, which is why I almost answered, "what's best for me and mine," but I've never harmed anyone beyond the time I punched a kid in second grade. Also, cultivating a comfortable form of poverty is one of my favorite pastimes. I hate American pop/consumer culture, that's for sure. However, the only way you'll get me to leave is to kill me and ship me out. Call me an "evolutionist, atheist/agnostic, gay, old-time musician and farmer."

Depends, Folks would say I'm somewhat consevative middle of the road gun lovin, southern-baptist, part time ranch slave.

I think in a doomer world more than anything I would be a Court Jester. try to create my own entertainment and humor with little or no material props. Try to get folks to laugh a little, the sum of all scenarios is to much for most to absorb. The mind needs a valve. Find the humor in a bad situation. Reminds me of a old Mr.Boffo cartoon. Two guys are in Hell, the old timer says to the new guy:

"Don't forget we do have a secret weapon against the devil here in hell!"

"What is it?"

"Sarcasm"

Weirdo. My kids say its genetic and we are all a bunch of weirdos. I believe in community for everyone else, it doesn't work for me. I'm the sort that in a post apocolpyptic world would be hung as a witch. I'm different, always have been, there is something about me that threatens people. I mean I look normal and talk normal and all but eventually everyone is afraid or jealous of me for some weird reason.

Thats not a joke either. I've had people I've worked with for years suddenly turn to me one day, out of the blue and tell me I'm a witch.

I like the idea of 'a comfortable form of poverty'. People don't notice peasants much. Your philosophy is similar to mine, Killjoy. Except I'm Australian ..... and straight.

My first instinct was "what's best for me and mine". But then I thought about it and realised that "mine" also includes my neighbours, friends, associates etc.

I could not have food etc. and watch those around me go without. I know many here say that they could - but I know I couldn't.

Fortunately I live in a rural area where most people have small farms and run some kind of stock.

I'm an anarchist, an environmentalist, and a strong believer in justice. Unlike most anarchists, I mostly keep my anarchism to myself, because most people just don't seem ready for anarchism at all--most people aren't even ready or willing to hear about it. If the people around me are interested in anarchism, they know who to ask about it.

Oh, and for all the people voting "Other," are all of you really so indescribable by any other choice. I mean, I myself have to be on the top 3 percentile of unusual people here, and I still didn't choose "Other." But, whatever makes you happy!

Show-off, entertainer, always looking to find the humor in things. Empathetic.
Not particularly driven or ambitious, pleasure loving, undisciplined except once in a while when I push to myself to extremes of effort. Born in the wrong century.

I am a racists but despise all races equally

I love nature and hate environmentalists.

I am an anarchist with a strong affection for order and punctuality.

I loathe excessive wealth and love counting my money.

I hate being wrong and fear being right.

Guess that makes me a weirdo.

I guess that's why the yuppies are working so hard to turn the place into Hell-On-Earth?

What sort of a person am I? Uhhhh...dunno.

My motivation seems to be trying to work to help others. I don't always succeed. Either in being motivated or being helpful.

I certainly ain't rich and would prefer not to become Bill Gates even if the opportunity was presented to me. Just a small amount will do for me. LOL this is a bit like those "personal" columns, y'know: 'Good Sense of Humour' (yeah...riiiiiiight)

Funny, the communist option worked best for me, even though politically I'd call myself a social democrat.

I don't believe in totally socialising property, but I don't believe the market will magically take care of everyone either.

My plan is to build a stack of skills, including community building skills, that I can hopefully teach to others and make myself valuable that way. Small community democracy would rock.

Read Ted Trainers, "The Simple Way" for a description of my utopia.

I think our current world situation is eventually screwed and no political system will change that. I think the world has several billion people too many, but I abhore violence so I don't advocate getting rid of any of them. I think how the world situation develops will get rid of lots of people what ever I think about it. I guess I'm a fatalist. My nick name should be a clue.
