Everyone,
Please join me in wishing one of the funniest comedians ever to walk this Earth a Happy 100th Birthday. Lou Costello, the short, chubby comedian who partnered with straightman Bud Abbott to form the comedy team Abbott & Costello, would have turned 100 on March 6th. Unfortunately, his life was cut short by a heart attack in 1959.
Abbott & Costello influenced many of today's comedians. Jerry Seinfeld is a big fan of Abbott & Costello. They were the highest paid entertainers in the 1940's and great humanitarians as well. They gave millions to charity and raised millions for our government during WWII. If you attended one of Abbott & Costello's Christmas parties you would see Lou passing out $100 bills to all of the guests.
Even though Abbott & Costello's comic material, including their famous "Who's On First" might seem dated now, Abbott & Costello probably could entertain 21st century audiences just as well as they entertained 20th century audiences.
Wouldn't it be great to see Abbott & Costello on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno?
Wouldn't it be great to hear about their upcoming movie to help the middle class...
"Abbott and Costello Meet George W Bush?"
Wouldn't it be great to see them perform a new comic skit, with Abbott a computer salesman and Costello a customer who calls Abbott on the phone. Maybe it would go something like this...
ABBOTT: Bud's Computer Store. How may I help you?
COSTELLO: I would like to buy some computer software.
ABBOTT: I can help you with that...
COSTELLO: What kind of computer software do you sell?
ABBOTT: Windows?
COSTELLO: My computer will be in my office, not near the windows.
ABBOTT: No, no, not those kind of windows.
COSTELLO: What kind of computer software do you sell?
ABBOTT: Windows?
COSTELLO: Why? Will it get stuffy in my house?
ABBOTT: No, no, computers come with Windows.
COSTELLO: What will I see when I look at the Windows?
ABBOTT: Wallpaper.
COSTELLO: Wallpaper for Windows?
ABBOTT: That's right.
COSTELLO: So when I buy computer software, I'm buying Windows. When I look at Windows, I'm looking at wallpaper.
ABBOTT: Now you've got it.
COSTELLO: How do you turn off a computer?
ABBOTT: Click on Start...
COSTELLO: I want to turn it off not on!
ABBOTT: I'm telling you how to turn it off. Click on Start...
COSTELLO: Why are you telling me to turn it on when I want to turn it off?
ABBOTT: I'm telling you how to turn it off. Turning off a computer is very easy. All you have to do is take your mouse and click on Start...
COSTELLO: So when I want to turn a computer on, I click on Start. When I want to turn it off, I click on Start.
ABBOTT: That's right!
COSTELLO: Who will give me tech support if I need it?
ABBOTT: "Who" doesn't do tech support! He makes millions of dollars playing baseball! He's a first baseman!
Lou, wherever you are, have a Happy 100th Birthday!
