There's a village in Austria called Fucking which a lot of English speaking people find amusing. The German speaking people however don't get it. The German word "Fucking" actually means "post peak oil zombie". The German word "Wank" means "Henry Kissinger".

What you experience when you attempt to be funny is a culture clash. The Germans are always polite. They killed millions of people during WW2, but they're always polite. They simply don't think that you're funny and they express that by looking like Goedel. They're so embarrassed by your jokes that they don't know what to do. The Goedel thing is sort of a a defence mechanism.

If you want to make a German laugh you have to joke about sheep, farts or meteorologists.

Don't worry too much though. They don't even get my Swedish sense of humor...

As far as I know it's a legitimate business operation, has existed for a while. It may well be in the "Peak District".

It's not sarcasm, it's legit, but refering to a different peak, ie physical ones.

Hope they don't have too much trouble from idiots when peak oil becomes generally known. I can just see some violent, parochial yobbo finding out that his unemployment, poverty, blackout .. whatever was caused by peak oil and he'll decide to do something about it like bombing the head office, or harrassing the staff.

Just like poor Mr Al Nino from California is always being blamed for the bad weather.

My point is that it's not funny. Do you know that UK chick who sings? She calls herself Dildo. Dildos are simply not funny.

I'll tell you what's funny. There is a name, Fittinger which is not so uncommon in the USA. When I see or hear that name I think of a woman at a job I had some years ago. Her name was Inger but we always called her Fitt-Inger. I think that's hilarious! I doubt though that you think that's funny.

Their Hubbert curve logo is backward from the way it really is. The dip from the 70's oil crises should be on the right side with the cliff on the left.

of course they may call their bussiness as they like, but I bet they aren't 'in the know' about peakoil :-)

but a giant fueltruck with big writing PEAK OIL on it, come on that's funny, even the logo is correct

I bet when peakoil hits their bussiness, they will be wondering "how the hell couldn't we foresee this? it what written in front of us"

(and if you have a website, you check the url's with the same name but with different extensions, no? )
