$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Mechler', 'Y')ou're right, cube, athletics and other forms of entertainment, of some sort, will always be around. Keep in mind, though, that the current pro/elite sports system in very energy intensive. Think of all of the travel associated with competitions. In the US, sports teams travel across the country several times a week. Olympic level athletes travel from continent to continent to compete. And then there are the fans that drive to the events...
I'm no businessman but my guess tells me the primary expense in running a pro-sports team is not the cost of transportation but instead paying these athletes their ridiculous salaries. I do not think sports will be "localized" due to PO.
However PO will take a bite out of Joe Sixpack's disposable income. When the public has less money to spend on overpriced tickets these prima donna athletes will have to take a pay cut.
One of the things that I have learned is to never underestimate the stupidity of mainstream society. A good example of such foolishness is the public financing of sports stadiums which BTW are privately owned. I cannot think of any other private business venture off the top of my head right now where the government literally pays for the capitol cost of a private business.
That's like a tycoon planning to open up a steel mill and asking the government to tax it's citizens to help pay for the cost while he keeps all the profits and ownership of the business to himself. We all know that big business quite often bribes government to pass favourable laws but even thats pushing the limits.
Sports stadiums/entertainment are a special class of industry where the rules of economics and common sense don't seem to apply.
