Venting gripes and annoyances

Unread postby antspice » Thu 26 Jan 2006, 20:18:55

I have yet to see a thread that allows us to vent ouer feelings about the society's that currently house us, primarily the ones that are not aware to any extend and are conservative of their current way of life.
I preassume that a lot of us still drive their cars to work, or atleast cycle next to a road with a pretty line of smelly smoking cars.

my gripes
$this->bbcode_list('1')
  • When i cycle through the city i can only rarely get myself to take deep breaths because the air is so full of car exhausts (rush hours)
  • At night when i walk the dog there is light everywhere, every 5 meters has a light, i cant even look up to stars and there will be to many lights around. From the streets i can only see the brightest of stars (or airplanes). My bedroom has a streetlight 4-ish meters away from its window.
  • The drphill show, its all very nice what hes doing and i love it all the way through but in the end i cant help but by upset about the prospect i envision for the people he helps.
  • My sister is in mental institution (for being depressed/seeing hallucinations) and she wants to get a taxi arranged ( so she can be home at night and over there at day (each day of the week, thats roughly 100 miles total, 2x5x10 miles)
  • The pressure of my parents to finish my education and get a life/house/work/etc.
  • Consequences derived from ouer society of status and invidivual succes, shown in tv commercials and celebrity news, shows (Oprah anyone?)

  • I hope to make this thread to generate some delight for the needy, by sharing ouer annoyances and hopefully confirm that we are not alone with ouer gripes and annoyances.

    Vent away
    regards, sleep tight.

Maybe you could get RID OF YOUR TELEVISION. NOW! KILL IT! SHOOT IT FULL OF LEAD! :-D (then, late at night, go outside and shoot the street light by your window, then, tell your sister what you did. she'll be so proud of you she'll snap out of her depression)

Oh I gripe about our society/culture fairly constantly here on PO.com, to make a list would be to repeat myself yet ad nauseum...

How does your sis manage to be in a mental institution? They kick people out of hospital after two weeks around here...

Speaking of television...A lot of my friends these days are wringing their hands over HDTV. They'll be forced to buy an expensive new HDTV by 2009, or they won't be able to watch their favorite shows! It's unfair to the poor who can't afford new TVs! The digital rights management will be brutal, no one will be able to record TV shows any more!

They'll be very lucky if HDTV is their biggest worry in 2009.

Yeah, I love when I hear people talk about all the new high tech gadgets that are gonna come out. Like the replacement for DVD's.

I'm sure they won't be worrying about buying the latest and greatest in a couple of years. They'll be worrying about how they are gonna keep from starving and freezing to death.

In the days before CDs and DVDs and all this newfangled techstuff, back when I had to walk barefoot through twenty miles of snow to school, uphill both ways, they used vinyl to record music. After you played a vinyl record a bunch of times, the needle would get stuck on a loop. We called it a "broken record" because it kept saying the same thing over and over again. Like you! :P

nah, that ain't no broken record...you would just pull the fuzzy stuff off the needle and all was right with the world again

    MULE RANTS AND OBSERVATIONS
1.I've never met a parrot like AE who clips his own wings.
    2. As for HDTV switch in 2009, they had better figure out a economical solution or the revolution will not be televised.
    3. PMS why would anyone walk 20 miles in the snow both ways if gas was 23 cents a gallon?
    4. I once shot a televison, very invigorating.

I'm not just going to throw that last one out there without expanding, here is the story goes:

Last October my buddy Shawn and I went camping in the Western Ouachitas of Oklahoma. Any time we go camping guns are always involved. He brought a 36"Sony Color TV with a burned out tube for us to destroy. Let me tell you If you ever get in gunfight, stand behind a television set.

We hit that thing with a 9mm an a 12 ga with #6birdshot. Everytime we hit it it would just chip a piece off. It took 5 rounds from a 30/30 deer rifle to really cause any separation of the tube from the frame. Televisions are built tough. Filling a TV set up with lead is puuuuuuuure endorphine loaded extacy.

BTW-It took us a half hour to clean up all the parts but I am a big advocate of Leave No Trace. If your not you should be.

I'm not that old! I drove a VW bug in high school, really. Gas was 26 cents a gallon, not 23. Then in 1972 it went up to 32 cents a gallon and I was mad at the world and felt ripped off. (we don't even get snow here, that was just a gag)

Well then PMS, if you were in High School in 1972 out in California. Did you get a chance to go see any Groovy Concerts? I had a old boss who saw the last american concert of The Beatles at Candlestick Park in 1966. Did you see Jefferson Airplane, Stones, Doobie Bros?

    OK LONG VET RANT COMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One night a very fine dog of mine came down with the bloat. We called the a vet and met him at his office. He wanted to do surgery that would cost a minimum of USD$1200. I told him that between my DW being ill and me being a cripple that we just didn't have that kind of cash. So I went home to get my DW and DS so they can say good by. Well in this time he took it on himself to try a couple of other methods to save the dog without telling us.

When we got there we said our good bys and he put her down. A week later I got a bill from him for over $600 mostly for the stuff he did after I told him we were going to put the dog down. I just couldn't believe that the SOB had padded the bill like this. It took me 2 weeks to get him on the phone to explain himself. He tried to lay a guilt trip on me about how he was just trying to save the dog because she was such a good dog.

    BULL SHIT!!!

How do I know. Because about a month later my cousin takes in a cat that had lived in his garage for many years. The cat was a good cat in its prime, but towards the end she looked like an old outdoors cat just barely hanging on. So one day DC finds said cat passed out in the middle of the side walk. So he decides it is time to put this poor cat down. His mistake was taking said cat to the closest vet. The guy I spoke of above.

Now I won't go into the gruesome details about the cats condition, but the poor thing should have been put down right then and there. But noooo. That vet sweet talks my cousin into trying to save the cat. Long story short. Cat lives 3 more days. Runs up vet bill of $900+.

A few months later I was telling these stories at a local bar and to my surprise an ex BIL of said vet is in the bar. He tells me how the guy has 2 ex-wives plus a new 20 something bride, a huge house, new cars all around, a big boat, a very nice lake cabin. Who knew there was so much money in torturing dying animals.

Luckily I found a vet who really cares. Had the same situation with the first dog's sister about 2 years later. She was crying and caring on and I knew she had the bloat. So I took her to another vet who said that bloat surgeries are a 50/50 chance at best. And that the dogs that do survive are never the same. Long story short. He came out in the middle of the night, comforted us, got a small bite from my dog while he was giving her a shot to calm her down. He let us spend as much time with her as we needed to say good by. He put her down, and since it was winter and the ground was frozen, disposed of the body. And the bill. $147.

PS Akitas are wonderful dogs but they are very susceptible to the bloat. So be sure to feed them small amounts of food several times a day. Of course this might not even help as in the case of our girls.

So duke, what happened with the $600 bill for unrequested services? Did you have to pay it. A greedy SOB vet like that sounds like he'd hold you to it. (word will get around and he'll be known as someone to stay away from, hopefully)

    You're not alone dukey
It's unbelievable the guilt trip these guys have learned to use to squeeze cash out of you.More and more, they remind me of funeral directors.
    DVM=Doctor of Venal Mendacity.
My 17 year old Shih Tzu needs, according to Dr.Snowjob:a plastic hip,eye surgery and dental work. All this for a mere $5 grand. That's besides the 'special diet' he recommends and is the only area stockist of,dog food @$3.25/can.
The dog will have to live without them.If she is in pain,I'll put her down.
Another example of a good thing gone too far.

    Hey PMS,

Hell yes he held me to it. I told him I thought about $200 was right and that I wasn't paying any more. He took me to court where the small claims judge sided with the vet because I couldn't prove these weren't "normal" charges. I ended up paying the guy $10 a month for about two years, but then when DW's medical bills started rolling in I stopped.

Of course his lawyer called me back to small claims court where, even though I explained to him about DW's medical condition, and how we were on the verge of homelessness, he threatened to put me in jail if I didn't start paying again. I looked that SOB right in the eye and told him to go right ahead and send me to jail. That I was sure the sheriff would just be thrilled to have a cripple in his jail eating up the healthcare budget. Never heard from them again.

Now my cousin, who has a real job, ended up paying the amount in full plus lawyer’s fees because he tried to fight it in court. But the small claims courts around here almost always side with their regular customers.

    Duke in Indiana

PS I almost forgot. About 10 years ago we had a cocker spaniel who came up with a limp in a hind end leg. We took her to this same vet and he told us she needed some very expensive surgery right away or she would limp the rest of her life. At the time we had no debt (man does that sound funny now. No debt! HA) and wouldn’t agree to the surgery until we had the cash. Well six weeks later the dog was walking fine and has been ever since. Hell, she just jumped up on the couch next to me.

I’ll tell you what. If I ever need to make an emergency vet run in the middle of the night again and this BOZO is the only vet on call, I’ll just have to take matters into my own hands and put the dog down myself. Hell, 22 long rifle rounds are sure a lot more humane than this guy.

You guys aren't fooling about Vet hospitals. Last month my indoor cat got her stomach cut on something outside and I had to take her to the emergency room to get stiched up. 5 hours later I got soaked for $400. Now I use to be a insurance adjuster a few years ago and I love the vigorous debate on bullshit charges but these guys have their bases covered. Not all vets are like this including my normal vet but dang, I wonder if the mob has it's hands in this business.

FYI-I had to sign a DNR waiver when they put the cat under to do stitches. Ever wonder how much it costs to give a cat CPR after midnight at a emergency room in Dallas? $750!! If they use the paddles it's $1200!!!
