Amory Lovins, Confidence, Energy Solutions

I like the way this guy thinks. I believe he is the one that Kunstler denigrates as having the crazy clueless idea that highly fuel efficient cars are any kind of solution to our oil problems. The Rocky Mountain Institute is doing some fine work. The U.S. needs to get moving on some of these kinds of ideas. This is a Discover Magazine article worth reading:

Et tu, Brute?

Gone over to the Cornucopian side, have we?
What will arrive first? Peak Oil or the Second Coming? My money is now on the latter.

Well, it's a sin to despair! Did you read the article? I joined this forum way back in Nov, 04. There was a thread about solutions. I posted the idea that a solution would involve carbon fibers in our transportation infrastructure. Strong, lightweight vehicles that use a fraction of the energy. The U.S. gets out in front and revitalizes it's manufacturing base by building things with carbon nanofibers. The downturn in the past few decades of our students' intellectual achievement is reversed by a Renaissance of our culture. A cold, hard slap of the American public by the hard times ahead could put some reality into how we deal with things. Turn things around. Radical change is coming. Maybe it will do us some good. Don't forget, cornucopianism isn't the same as building sustainability. We move away from stupid consumerism, stupid culture, stupid values, stupid excesses of profligate energy usage, and finally get our act together because we have to. Obviously we will not be able to continue expanding the amount of energy we use - and that's cornucopianism, to think it's business as usual! Getting smarter and finding solutions isn't. (BTW who is that gloomy looking dude in your avatar?)

That's me.

People keep mistaking me for Steve Buscemi.

You're a good soul, PMS.

I'll read the article tomorrow.

Tonight I have 4 episides of The Shield from Netflix to work through.

I like A. Lovins. I learned about PO because I learned about him. I never talk about him here though or have never mentioned him, because I have read what Kunstler has said and thought...maybe this is not the place for discussing Lovins.

Thanks PMS for posting this article.
