Gone over to the Cornucopian side, have we?
Well, it's a sin to despair! Did you read the article? I joined this forum way back in Nov, 04. There was a thread about solutions. I posted the idea that a solution would involve carbon fibers in our transportation infrastructure. Strong, lightweight vehicles that use a fraction of the energy. The U.S. gets out in front and revitalizes it's manufacturing base by building things with carbon nanofibers. The downturn in the past few decades of our students' intellectual achievement is reversed by a Renaissance of our culture. A cold, hard slap of the American public by the hard times ahead could put some reality into how we deal with things. Turn things around. Radical change is coming. Maybe it will do us some good. Don't forget, cornucopianism isn't the same as building sustainability. We move away from stupid consumerism, stupid culture, stupid values, stupid excesses of profligate energy usage, and finally get our act together because we have to. Obviously we will not be able to continue expanding the amount of energy we use - and
that's cornucopianism, to think it's business as usual! Getting smarter and finding solutions isn't. (BTW who is that gloomy looking dude in your avatar?)
