Haven't seen the sun since Dec 21...

Unread postby frankthetank » Mon 02 Jan 2006, 23:03:06

This is getting to get old!!!! The last day with some sunshine was Dec 21st, while teh next chance for sun looks to be either Thursday or Friday...However, the temps have been EXTREMEMLY mild on the lows (in the 30's for days upon days--even @ night), so that will help a LOT on the next heating bill.

Taking it in the ass in Wisconsin!

Same thing in Pennsylvania. Mild winter, endless cloudy days.

I'm having a feeling it's those clouds that keep the warmth from escaping. Cloudless nights are much colder than ones with clouds.

The longer I go without sun, the more happier and less depressed I seem to get. Weird.

I'd be happy to give you some of our sun from here in sunny Queensland. We've had a prolonged heat wave over the last few weeks. A traditional Aussie Christmas, record temperatures and no rain in sight for days. Although we've had storms the last couple of afternoons. You're welcome to come and get some rays.
Kind regards, Katkinkate

Its actually been depressingly sunny here. Haven't had a decent storm in 2 months. Its wickedly dry and been real damn windy. I feel like a piece of freeze dried meat...

NM has 2 seasons...

hot dry and windy and cold dry and windy...

please forward all storms this way....

I live in Wi. too. Clouds, clouds, clouds. And more clouds.

At least it hasn't been too cold.

I'm nocturnal anyway, so I don't miss the sun. At least not to much. I like
it dark. Though I would like some clear weather so I can take out the scope
I purchased last fall.

Good video game weather.

"Taking it in the ass in Wisconsin!"

Seasonal affective disorder, or some other issues?

You should think yourselves lucky. At least you don't have kaamos (endless night in the Arctic).

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')Psychiatrist tackles demons of Arctic winter darkness
By Marko Leppänen

Wednesday and Thursday, December 21st and 22nd, are the shortest days of the year. Kaamos, the period of winter darkness when the sun does not appear at all in the northernmost part of Finland, is at its darkest. However, that is also when the pendulum swings and starts to move toward the sunlit nights of the summer.
The reminder should be a comfort at least to that ten percent of Finns who suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) - winter depression induced by a lack of sunlight. Probably just about everyone complains about the darkness to some degree.

Helsinki Times

Though I'm far enough south we get 5-6 hrs daylight even in midwinter.

I'm at 60 degrees north, about the same as southern Alaska and the Shetland Isles.

At midsummer we get only 2 or 3 hours of dusk, it isn't full night-time especially if not cloudy. But now is the time of year when people get depressed from the short days. It's often cloudy so a very dull daytime. Luckily had quite a few sunny days recently which is bright on the snow and cheers you up.

I still can't decide whether Finland is a good or bad place for post peak.
