Interesting article in today's NYTimes on QP.

Anton Zeilinger of the University of Vienna said that he thought, "The world is not as real as we think.

"My personal opinion is that the world is even weirder than what quantum physics tells us," he added.

What will arrive first? Peak Oil or the Second Coming? My money is now on the latter.

Profound and true. Every once in a while something will come along and demonstrate how strange the world really is. I like that stuff they said in the movie about this about illusions.

The world is as real as we need it to be. It is a structure of emergent properties piled layer on top of layer, with the proton (emergent from three bound quarks) being near the bottom and with intelligent life being somewhere near the top. It doesn't really matter whether that structure meets some technical definition of realness. The world is as real as we are, and that's plenty real enough.

I still think that Heisenbergs "Unschärferelation", i.e. the dictum that the Observer of an experiment is always influencing an experiment (or more precise: You can't now both "position" and "movement" (impuls) of a quantum at the same time) - is one of the most profound principles we will ever get to know.

Similar to the Goedel - Theorem, that you can't "step outside" a logical theorem, because it's always part of the theorem.

Also related to other phenomens and paradoxa like the "Moebius-Loop". I think the book "Goedel-Escher-Bach" is very much about this kind of phenomena...

In the end it means we can't know shit about our universe because we are part of it. Both frightening and inspiring.
