PO using movie, Pi

Unread postby peaknewsseeker » Tue 15 Nov 2005, 11:33:00

I was a big fan of the movie "Pi" a few years back and it is possible to search for anything in Pi simply by typing in birthdates or converting letters to numbers (dog is 4-15-7 etc.). It has been rated as one of the most useless Websites on the Internet but I found it interesting that when searching for PO terms interesting things emerge.

Pi search: http://www.angio.net/pi/bigpi.cgi

When you type in oil (15-9-12) you get: 15912 568989295-1964
1964 was the year of peak oil discovery.
http://72.14.207.104/search?q=cache:6kp ... lr=lang_en

adding the digits between 15912 and 1964 is 62 which in Pi occurs at:
62-64

64 is right next to 62. Odd. Let's suppose that oil is really the big thing. Let's see what happens when "USA" (21-19-1) is searched for:
1829-71 21191

"In 1829, while drilling for salt, an early settler struck oil on Renox Creek, three miles north of Burkesville. This is believed to have been the first oil well in America. A historical marker has been placed at the site."
http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cache:eV ... lr=lang_en

next to 1829 is 71
"U.S. oil production peaked in 1971 [2], and has been decreasing since then. "
http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cache:qE ... lr=lang_en

What about America (1-13-5-18-9-3-1)?
113518931 79-49-76-09-79-7-79

There are three 79s (oil crisis - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1979_energy_crisis) next to the number. adding the digits between the 79s brings us to a grand total of 29. 29 in Pi occurs at:
29 4895493038-1964
This is a different location than the 1964 mentioned above. Here again we have the date of peak oil discovery.

There are some words such as Peak oil, Britain and North sea which are too long to search for. Also, Iran and Russia have passed peak but use their own alphabet so converting Iran to numbers would require a lot more work than I am willing to put in to this.

Just thought this might be interesting and a break from the usual. 8O

<hijack>

The most useless site I've found, not meant as a joke, is Tom's Census
Age Calculator:

http://toshop.com/censuscalc.cfm

A site that claims to be the most useless, is from a man who's hobby
is visiting Presidential grave sites, complete with photos of him by
the headstones:

What bothers me about people doing numerology, is the low level of maths they all have.

When I read the title of this thread, what sprung to my mind was how pi appears in the formula for a Bell curve, which is the ideal approximation for peak oil. (This is hardly surprising, since pi is scattered all over most math formulas).

But then, how many people know anything about maths?

If you are going to do something like this, please use the Bible as your source. At least, nobody can be confused about the game you are playing then.
