Testify!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'G')eorge W. Bush is the most powerful man alive. He is a class A imbecile. He is far less intelligent than the average Christian. But like most of the others, he believes Jesus died for his sins. That idea is so perverse and devoid of logic it should shock the conscience. Instead, it gets him elected, and earns him the reverence of a great percentage of America. America! The most advanced country in the world -- run by a bunch of villagers who still believe Santa Claus is going to save them.

There is no damn Easter Bunny. There is no Jesus waiting to return. Moses never even existed. These were all convenient lies from the men of those times to gain power. Their actions were rational -- they wanted to deceive their brethren so that they could amass power. I get their motivations. But I cannot, for the life of me, understand our motivations, thousands of years later, still following the conmen of yesteryear into our gory, bloody, violent end.

Today it takes a lot of courage to take on the jesus mythology. But it's about time someone got busy and spoke the truth about all this old propagandistic religious buffoonery.

New Zealand Parliment: 121 members

Labour Party, 50 members - Led by Helen Clark: Declared Agnostic
National Party, 48 members - Led by Don Brash: Declared Agnostic
Green Party, 6 members - nature lovers
Progressive Party, only 1 member, not religious

So, KJ, getting tired of the planning forum?

Looks like a speck thread title.

Ahhh, post count envy…

I get it.
The legitimate object of government, is to do for a community of people, whatever they need to have done, but can not do, at all, or can not, so well do, for themselves -- in their separate, and individual capacities.

There's one thing worse in America than taking on Jesus. And that is to have the nerve to question the self-evident, unambiguous, wholesome goodness of economic growth, higher incomes, and more spending power for all Americans.

Um, I think they'd have a point here if Dubya and his cronies were actually followers of Jesus, but they do it in name only. Read the gospels--there is absolutely nothing in there to suggest that one should act in the way these people are behaving. And it had to be true, because no one with an ego (that is, all of us), would say the things that Jesus said. Gosh, just read the red letters. You will never see it printed that Jesus said to go make war on your neighbors.

That was an idiodic article. Most Christians, Muslims, or Jews are not anything like the man described. There are fanatics in all of these religions. So? There's a lot of idiot agnostics too. The sad thing is that there are many who are willing to use the name of God and their favorite prophet to run amok in the world, but they are not true believers. True believers have humility--a quality I'm not seeing much of in the White House these days. Oh, many Christians do believe in evolution. We're just not the loud mouthed ones.

Planning is past tense for me. I've already planned.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'R')ead the gospels--there is absolutely nothing in there to suggest that one should act in the way these people are behaving.

"Bring my enemies before me and slay them." --Jesus, the peacemaker. Luke 19:27

"If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned." John 15:6

Jesus says that he has come to destroy families by making family members hate each other. He has "come not to send peace, but a sword." Matt 10:34-36

"the children of the kingdom [the Jews] shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth." Matt 8:12

It is evident that there are many liberal and moderate religious people around who are not fanatics and who are able to think rationally.

In the US, it is only the liberal and moderate Christians who can defuse the self-righteous moralistic hubris and warlike ruminations of the right-wing Christians. Because they can legitimately offer an alternative version of the Christianity and the bible to American citizenry.

But they need to get going SOON before the cult Christians destroy our freedoms and sow destruction all over the earth.

It also says, however, that a person can be judged by his fruit. Bush isn't exactly producing good fruit, so I am suspect of his belief.

Similarly, I'm skeptical of the politicians over here who claim to be Christians here. I am a Christian, however I do not condone the actions of said politicians.

Mmm, but by sitting docile in the back seat while Bush drives the Jesus wagon over the bones of many tens of thousands of recently living people makes you complicit. He is using the good name of christianity (bear with me, fellow pagans) to do great evil, and if you would hold high the standard of JHC you've got to stop this v.well known christian from hurting your brand.
Unless of course you LIKE the payoffs (cheap oil, credit, lotsa shiny toys) that Bush & co provide and just want to distance yourselves a little bit, conversationally as it were. Christ would have some harsh words to say about that... (can he revoke your christianity'? just wondering..)

There may well be anti-bush christians, but they'll soon be about as significant as 'good' germans in 1946. Pro or anti Bush, i wont trust a public christian again in this lifetime.

The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

That was an excellent blog.

I agree 100% with his opinion.

As ug has said many times, people need to be saved from religion.
(his piece did remind me quite a bit of stuff ug rants about.)

Organized religions have probably been responsible for more madness and deaths than just
about anything. A good argument can be made that most our current (failing) systems of
government, laws and economics are the 'warty outgrowth' of early religions
(again, ug).

People just can't be faced with their own mortality and probably turn to religion for
some sort of security, and for answers to all those unanswerable questions in life.

There are no answers in this life.

Brian: I am not the Messiah!

Woman: Only the true Messiah would deny his divinity!

Brian: What? What kind of chance does that give me? Oh, alright, I am the Messiah.

Crowd: Brian! The Messiah! Brian! The messiah!

Mother: He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy!

Who was it? Marx or Mao I think, "religion is the opiate of the people"
More like a crack cocaine or methamphetamine I'd say. Truly the worst poison to ever derange a society. A cancer; a plague. As the tree is bent so shall it grow. Lots of bent people out there.
