So did anybody catch this programme last week?

I video'd it & watched the first part last night.

No, sorry, I still don't get it with Bob Dylan, although as a Dylan-sceptic I am prepared to concede that he did write some good songs - my favourite I think being Them's version of It's All Over Now Baby Blue.

Thing is, not all is quite what it seems with this film. The Beeb kept showing a clip from the film to advertise their "Dylan Season" showing Dylan and the band in a car whilst he complains about people booing him, and the first time I saw it, I thought it was some kind of piss-take, done by somebody like the Dead Ringers crowd or something.

But no, the scene really was in the film. It purported to be from 1966, yet the clip looked like a set-up. Apart from the possible better quality of the scene compared to real archive footage I noticed:
- the policemen holding back the crowd were wearing caps with the chequered band. As I recall those didn't come into use until the 1970s (check any "contemporary" films showing the Beatles and the crowd control of the day - all the plods are wearing the traditional helmets)
- the shot of the road showed the current modern road signs, which again didn't come into use fully until the 1970s
- the film implied that the band had been driving all night in the car (shot of Dylan asleep in the morning). As the gig had been in Sheffield (pretty much right in the centre of the UK, and with a motorway running right past it, even in the 1960s) where the hell were they going that would require them to drive all through the night?

Anybody else feel this, or am I finding conspiracy theories everywhere I look?

At the end of the day, what difference does it make to the film? But why would Scorcese feel the need to fake this part in the first place?

I've yet to watch part 2. What am I going to find there?
