Researchers have observed and photographed wild gorillas using sticks and stumps to navigate a swampy forest clearing in the Republic of the Congo. The images provide the first documented use of tools among wild gorillas.

Dear Gorillas,

Given another 100,000 to 200,000 years it is likely that you will have invented agriculture (bad idea! but that's another story). Nevertheless, when you do invent agriculture it's entirely likely that you'll use a lot of your new free time to invent stuff. We humans call it "technology" (or tricknology?). At this point, you're going to want your very own industrial revolution! That's why I'm writing this letter. We got there first. We started with coal, then oil and natural gas. We've used up much of the oil and natural gas. Guess what? back to coal! The point I'm driving at is that when you get to your industrial revolution most of the good stuff will be gone. You snooze you lose.

Really though, in all due respect, you may be a little pissed off, but trust me. You'll be saving yourself a lot of heartache. Let me be succinct and put it in one word: overshoot. You don't want to go there.

Best of luck!

Sincerely,
Seldom Seen

Funnily enough the expression on the gorilla's face is just the same as for any human wading in cold water when the water gets to the top of their legs! :-D

Dear Gorillas,

Sorry you did not get an invite to the party. Do you know of any hangover cures?

Regards,

There won't be any gorrilas. When we're finished using the coal we'll burn their forests, one stick at a time, while eating the gorillas, then at the end we'll burn any left over gorillas. Industrial "civilization" must roll on.
